I'm looking for a new PC with quite a high spec as i have a digital video camera. Found this one for sale on MESH for £899 and they do 6 months interest free.

Anyone know if MESH are good and whether this is pretty good value? cheers

Looks like a damn high spec to me - price seems to be pretty good! Remember delivery is £39+VAT.
Just a couple of points:
1) The IEEE1394 (Firewire) port is mounted on the rear - not much of a problem but could be annoying and you will probably use this a lot if you're messing with digital video.
2) Can't see whether the 17" TFT is DVI or not - really with a computer spec like this I'd expect DVI - but it isn't mentioned. (DVI means that there is a digital connection between the PC and monitor - rather than using the old 15-pin analogue connector). (It just says that the gfx card has DVI).
3) There's no mention of PCI-X - this might be useful in a year or two...
4) A point to note is the Athlon64 3500+ will not function at it's best because Windows is optimised for 32-bit computing - not 64-bit. This could work out quite good though - because when a 64-bit version of Windows comes out in a year or so - you'll get a big boost in speed so your computer shouldn't be obsolete as quickly. Until then - this processor is still one of the fastest available at the minute.
Here's a quick price check at ebuyer - please don't depend upon these choices - I only quickly checked the items and they may not all be the correct choices etc:
* Socket 754 Motherboard - 50.68 (Abit)
* Athlon64 3500 - 147.54
* 300GB SATA - 111.25 (Maxtor)
* 1GB RAM - 83.20 (Corsair)
* Sony DVD-R Dual Layer - 35.99
* Windows XP - 50.22
* GeForce FX5500 GFX Card - 48.72 (XFX)
* 17" TFT Flat Panel monitor (DVI) - 216.31 (Sony)
* 802.11g wifi pci card - 18.99 (Belkin)
* Logitech mouse/keyboard wireless - 19.75 (Logitech)
* Case - 20.99
Total = £954.53
You should be able to save £50 on the 17" flat panel if you chose a non-DVI. You can get a cheaper version of the FX5500. I personally wouldn't get the 802.11g card - it's pointless unless you have a wifi network. A lot of people would save money on the XP Home by using the students-saving-scheme (or other ways). I personally wouldn't buy a 300GB drive for the system you propose - I'd get 2x 160GB's - faster and money saving as well. Overall you could get the price down to the early 800's - but it's probably worth the extra for the 3 year warranty and the fact that the mesh PC is already built.0 -
ta cpjackso, just the sort of "techie" advice I was looking for. thanks for taking the time n trouble. ;DJertzy x0

My old PC is Mesh and it was very reliable so I decided to get a new PC from them. I have never had so much trouble in my life. 3 times it failed to turn up .. each time I was left waiting. When it did turn up it turned up on the wrong day. Then it was damaged. Then they wanted to charge me for items which were missing when I returned it. Which weren't even there in the first place. I WOULD AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
PS This is only a small sample of the problems I had with them.0 -

couldnt agree more.....if you click on the configure button it states that the monitor is analogue and doesnt state dvi, so must be analogue only....the options have other monitors which are analogue/dvi spec, but are 125 more for 19in (prob worth the extra) or branded 17 inch is 150 extra (hmm expensive option! but good make)Stevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -

I've also just got a new Mesh pc which i'm very happy with.Did have a problem with the DVD drive which they sorted out straight away,having said that customer support on another query was appalling-hours on phone to 08700 numbers after no replies to E-mails.
Also in configuration option you can add DVI cable so i'd assume monitor accepted it-ask the sales person.0 -

Just like to point out that the PC comes with a 17" Sony TFT as standard - so it is not "unbranded" but Iilyama are worth the extra money as the Sony does not have a very good response time usually.0 -
thanks for all your lovely feedback, think i'm gonna go for it and configure it a little and also not pay for 6 months! ;DJertzy x0

If you are going to go bigger than 17' inch then don't get the 19' as the resolution is still only 1280x1024 which is the same as 17' but display will not be so detailed and not so good. Rather go for 20' inch as these can display 1600x1200, much better.Val0
