  • Hi
Lurker here, we have similar amounts of debt and I also juggle looking after the children with work so can relate to your diary! Seems really harsh that you are to inherit your SIL debt, could you not make an agreement that you service the debt for her but that she repays you as and when?? We had a similar arrangement with my dad who wanted to pay for us to attend a family wedding abroad. We said we couldn't afford regular monthly repayments and thus didn't want to borrow from him. But bless him he insisted and said to pay it back when we could. So we got him to set up an ISA and every spare £1 and it honestly is small amounts like that go straight into it, we have paid over half of the amount now so getting there! Just a thought anyway! Take care!
  • Thats a good idea actually, and I agree with the mad lurker lol

  • Thanks guys ! :A Its a good idea in theory but....

I guess it is that sort of arrangement already but its been nearly 2 years and she has given us a total of 17 pounds! So in reality we aren't going to get it  She says she can never afford it - she does work but never budgets for stuff and so its always i need to pay for x, y and z! So *IF* we do get it back, brilliant, but we have to face up to fact that we probably won't and legally its in our name and so we've got to pay it! Like I said....lessons learnt and all that  She knows we aren't happy but OH/I have discussed it and think lifes to short to create a !!!!!! atmosphere for us and the kids. Its just one of those things. Its funny as OH's other sister also had a winge about it to her and they weren't speaking for about a month :D People even nag for me now :rotfl:

I suppose it isn't the right thing to do, we know it, she knows it and everyone else knows it but if she can still sleep easy then to me it says something about the type of person she is doesn't it? I know I couldn't do that to my brother. OH/I love his family don't get me wrong but he doesn't want to help them with money any more. That probably sounds harsh but we aren't rich (unfortunately) and whenever he/we do help they take their cake and eat it. So now he says he isn't doing it anymore.

Don't stay lurking! Its nice to read that i'm keeping at least one person interested.....:D;)

In other news, been a good girl today with doing stuff but then I went out for tea :o was okay though - was £17 for 3 of us including drinks! :money:

  • Oh well....have fallen out with SIL now.its her fault though honest ;)

She came round with her kids and was showing me all her new clothes her BF got her yesterday. All very nice high street brands...not a primani insight lol. BUT in the next breath was saying how she had applied for a loan off the DWP to fill up her oil tank for the winter as it was empty. When I pointed out that BF could perhaps have got the oil instead of clothes it didn't go down well and she got in a huff and left. OK fair enough BF might not want to support her but surely if it was that much of a problem he would do though? or am I being unreasonable by suggesting that she should budget? Winter comes every year

OH said i should apologise to keep the peace - i said no i wasn't going to do that. But now I am feeling a bit harsh. Am i being harsh??? AM I?

Other than that having a productive day :)
