So one option might be to agree to pay say £50 a month into an emergency pot for health care in the next two years which she could use if she needed? You are helping her and she has the back up if she needs it, meaning she could reduce her hours.0

She works part-time also (4 days on, 4 days off)
..
(€40 per visit to the doctor and her medication is €100 per month)
Why doesn't she have a Medical Card now?

Pee - useful suggestion, thanks. I could maybe put some extra in for other unexpected expenses. I already help her out on an ad hoc basis - I wouldn't make it too obvious, but I will buy her stuff that I know she wants, or slip her say €60 and say 'treat yourself and auntie X to dinner', or give her money towards something she is going to buy for the house or whatever.
jammin - I looked at that link (thank you BTW) but I think she is just over the income limit with the state pension and has my bro living with her (although he is unemployed, apparently it makes no difference). She has enquired about eligibility for a medical card but has been told that she is not entitled to one till she is 70.I am happy to be corrected on this though if you know something (fingers crossed).

I spoke to her earlier and mentioned her reducing her hours... she is very keen but hesitant about asking. I encouraged her to go and ask so fingers crossed...Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
