Online banking gives too much priority to "Available" instead of "Actual" balance IMO

I had no real problem with LTSB showing the 'Available balance' as inclusive of my overdraft when that was £5,000.
Since harder times have arrived (for LTSB, not me!), my overdraft is a fiddly £1,450, which means I have to do a quick bit of mental arithmetic each time I log in before I know exactly how much is really 'available'. Not hard, but annoying.
Get it rounded up or (more likely) rounded down.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Same with A&L. One of the reasons we'll be moving a/c soon.
Haha, the things people will complain about these days! Ohh the big nasty banks are ruining your lives. The rain is falling loads, ohh its the nasty bank's fault.
I guess common sense is gone these days and people are just getting lazier. LOL0 -

eh? No it's not ruining my life, but it's something mildly annoying that I choose to change. Just take a look at the hoops that frugallass has to jump through to make sense of it. Is it impossible, no. Is it desirable, also no.
I'm also tired of subsidising other peoples' use of their overdraft, but that's the other reason to move and a different subject.0 -
I don't think you should be allowed to have a bank account if you can't manage the simple calculation involved in deducting your overdraft from the availbale account balance!0

!!!!!! how what happened to the days when human beings were intelligent enough to balance their own cheque book to their bank statement once a month?
No telehpone banking. No internet banking. Just a pen, paper and cheque book stubs topped off with a little mental arithmetic.
Now that it's on a plate (or monitor) people moan about how nasty the banks are. If you have an overdraft of £500 then your amount available is £500 more than you actually have in the account.
We live in a lazy world where people can't be bothered to take ownership of their own finances.0 -

Yes, but in those days you could trust your mental arithmetic:opinions4u wrote: »!!!!!! how what happened to the days when human beings were intelligent enough to balance their own cheque book to their bank statement once a month?

We live in a lazy world where people can't be bothered to take ownership of their own finances.previous balanceIt is no longer like that because:
+ money banked
- cheques issued = current balance.- there are such things as ATMs and debit card purchases which you have to note down
- direct debits are taken where you don't necessarily know the amount;
- banks clear cheques or debit card traxs even if there are insufficient funds (and then charge you)
I would wish to know how much actually available to spend, NOT including the overdraft that A&L have offered but I nave no intention of using,
BUT after deducting all outgoings that the system is capable of identifying.
If the balance is lower because an inpayment hasn't cleared yet, I want to know that too.
Not too much to ask of a computer now is it?0
