Alienating your core vote would be suicidal so its not exactly shocking that they didnt go for root and branch reform. And there is still a place for 'social' benefits.leveller2911 wrote: »I would partly agree Nasa, the tories haven't said what they will do because they want to win the next election, pure and simple. The Tories are no better or worse than Labour. My point is Labour have been in for 12 years and to say they have done pretty well is too much, lets be honest they could have been radical and pro-active in completely changing the benefit system but they didn't and the only reason was they didn't want to anger thier core voters, well not until the 10p tax fiasco...
I dont think people will appreciate the change that the new sickness benefit will make for some time yet. It isnt just a name change.
And I appreciate its been a long time coming.0 -
I agree NASA, there is and always will be a need for benefits, we are all very lucky if we go through our lives and not need some sort of state help, however with an ageing population benefits should go to those who really need them and NOT to those who think they need them.Prime examples are on the benefits threads yesterday someone who,s son has SUSPECTED ADHD and was entitled to benefits, this is wrong , it wasn't even diagnosed yet...
Nu labour have created a whole tier of benefit recipients we didn't have 12 yrs ago and there are many, many who shouldn't get them. Its now a lifestyle choice, not by all I agree but a considerable minority...
It has to stop or where will all the money come from to pay all the benefits..
As for the changes in the "sickness benefit" not being just a name change we'll have to agree to dis-agree there, time will tell..0 -
Well, I will finish off with one last point, early info is that 65% of people are put off ESA after the medical. I dont think the IB medical is that successful at helping people off benefits.leveller2911 wrote: »As for the changes in the "sickness benefit" not being just a name change we'll have to agree to dis-agree there, time will tell..0 -
I personally would love to have a baby. I am 'stable', I'm 25 and both myself and my husband work full time. However at the moment we know we can't afford to have a baby and must wait a couple of years and save up until we can. That's planning for a baby. Not just getting pregnant then sorting out funding it. Hopefully I can pass on this ethic to my future child/ children. Work for what you want in life.0
