Were about to put our house on the market and will need to get a hip pack sorted, most of the estate agents want about £400, but I see plenty of deals online for about £175 upwards.

Anyone used any of these online deals, got a company to recomend or one to avoid?

Have no experience of online HIPS but a local estate agent is offering HIPS for £150 if you sell through them.

We just had one done and it is a farce to be honest.

We got a guy from online for £175, the estate agent wanted £300

They take pictures of your light bulbs/fittings and love low energy lamps. As if that would ever influence someone to buy a property :mad:

The whole thing is a scam by the government to get a few people off the dole queues at the cost of home owners.

Also I would like to know who owns the info you or the agent?? and as for light bulbs I do not and will never use those horrid bulbs I've stock piled lots of the old type and wouldn't leave them behind anyway, I've never moved into a house that has left the bulbs behind.We want to move but the thought of wasting money on that is making us think twice, after all I wouldn't even read one if I was viewing a house you ether like the house or not you can always make it more eco friendly if you want, its all daft red tape!!
Sorry for the rant but its just one of many things that gets forced on us that makes me mad

I really am surprised by the number of people who express this opinion, I always read the HIP for anything we were thinking seriously about. In theory there's lots of useful information in there, like wall construction, floor area, drain layout, radon checks and estimated bills.

Unfortunately the HIP proved to be wrong. Ours said 80% eco light bulbs, 120mm loft insulation, no cavity wall insulation and radon. In fact there's 1 eco bulb, patchy less than 1cm loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and no radon.

There's a limit to how eco friendly you can make a house. Making something with solid walls, multiple flat roof extensions and a cellar cosy is an expensive challenge.

Anyone heard of..http://www.fridaysmove.com? Says Hips for £164 plus VAT? I am in the North East.

I have just completed on a purchase of a new property and have spent many months asking for a hip. I never got one and was told by my solicitor that most estate agents don't actually bother with them because they are more work than necessary. Just a thought, you might not actually need one just like my seller got away without one!

Hi again , its interesting they include estimated bills !!! how will that help anyone? we live in a 3 bed semi but only 2 of us, we use very little, waters on a meter and we only use apx 12 units a 1/4, gas bill is due its going to be apx £10 for the 1/4 and electric is due and will be under £80 for the 1/4. So if a family of 5 moved in here they would use a lot more , we don't like lights on we like a candle in the evening, we only wash up once a day and wash machine only goes on once a week, every one lives differently , telling the buyer our bills would be daft!!!!!
We would like to down size but don't want to waste money!
