"If true then set up your company and offer/accept yourself a job ASAP. that will at least limit it to 6 month and still get the payout, with the option to try and get them to reduce it to 3months(your notice)"

Thanks for that - that seems like something that will have very little incremental cost to me (was going to set up the company anyway) but and I can do now and protect myself. I'm still fuming over this. This week is my last week overseas and it is a real wrench to get out of bed and get on jet plane and leave the family feeling like this.

Postive spin: At least from next week I am based in my home town and work in an office 9-5 which is step forwards from what I have been doing.

When my (then) employer decided to move the office, I knew then that I was going to be made redundant (didn't want to move with it!) but it wasn't until the September that I actually knew my leaving date. Like you I was on a pretty good redundancy package so didn't want to lose that, but at the same time didn't want to be out of work, so made job searching difficult.

If you want to set up your own business then there is nothing stopping you doing all the ground work now, so that when your redundancy does eventually come through you are ready to go.

    Good luck!
