Stag do in Amsterdam

Jet2 fly Leeds/Bradford for MArch 2010 approx £45 return including taxes. Alternatively consider Hull/Rotterdam ferry and have a mini cruise. As others have said Amsterdam is not cheap. But the hostels offer good value, breakfast, bed, showers and a locker for your valuables (the Stayokays are similar to UK hostels).
Avoid the coffee shops unless you want coffee & cake. You don't want a bad experience in a strange city even with your friends around you or worse still a bad experience on returning home.0 -
We're quite limited with travel dates as my best man and usher are both teachers and can't get time off in term time and easter hols are obviously very expensive! So flying after work on the fri is best and returning on the Sunday, so this is why we're looking at the cheapest, earliest deal!
Thank you for the advice re: culutural things to do, they are something I'd like to do, just not while on a stag do with male friends!! Beer and football are more the topics of the day, and maybe the aforementioned museums..!0 -
I Was in Amsterdam last month and been a couple of other times and really would not recommend it for a stag doo/lads holiday (unless you want to spend the whole time stoned in a coffee shop). There isn't many bars and what ones there are will charge you at least 6 euros a pint, also food and hotels are pretty expensive. Obv got the red light district which can be a laugh for a stag doo but any city got that sort of thing.
Get yourself to Munich or somewhere in Eastern Europe as already suggested.
I used easytobook.com which was good but sorry cant remember the hotel name. Can you get flights with Easyjet from near you?0 -
We went by ferry a couple of times. Check out if they go to Hook of Holland from Hull. It's about an hour and a half drive to amsterdam from there I think. We considered the ferry as part of the adventure. We rented an apartment for 6 guys once. Far cheaper than hotels. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Yessss.... I went on a weekend visit to Amsterdam from Hull once. The "weekend" ended up being 1.5hrs on a coach, 18 hours on a ferry, an hour delay, another hour and a half on a coach... then SEVEN hours in Amsterdam (in a zombified, sleep-deprived state) before returning the same way we came. Most people suffered pretty badly from sea sickness too.
A few years later I flew from Gatwick. Four or five hours after leaving my house I was in my hotel. MUCH better than going by ferry!0 -
We went from Harwich. 8 hours on the ferry I seem to remember, slept in bunks, then 1.5 hours to Amsterdam. Didn't see anyone with sea sickness. Anyway just a thought, car and 4 passengers was around £150Yessss.... I went on a weekend visit to Amsterdam from Hull once. Maybe that was the difference... Our "weekend" cost £28 and we had no rooms/beds. Not exactly doing it in style! And the crossing was unusually rough.
Last time I was there on business and flew by Easyjet. The flight itself was far from comfortable - tiny, hard seats, packed in like sardines, and an awful chav holiday camp atmosphere. But it's only an hour and was a lot cheaper than a club class ticket (even if I wasn't paying the bill). I don't mind roughing it if it's quick and cheap!0 -
If you want a right good laugh....get full of space cakes
then hit the Van Gogh museum !!!! we hada brilliant laugh before being ejected :j:j:j 0 -
Hello... thank you again for comments.
Half of my friends live in London and half in York so I think flying is the best option. As price is a problem and reading what some posters have said about Amsterdam not being totally appropriate, where would other suggest going for a stag weekend which would be cheap and easy to get to and fun for a stag weekend?
Munich as suggested sounds interesting!!0
