Virgin Mobile - faulty refurb phone

I bought a refurbished phone from Virgin in February. It was working fine until recently and all of sudden the keys started to freeze up. Switching off for a short time and removing the battery seems to make no difference. The keys just seem to unfreeze/defrost(!) after several hours.
Has anyone any experience of faulty phones & Virgin? My main concern is that as the fault is intermittent it'll work fine for them then they will return it and it'll play up for me.
