The Something Corporation: possible scam?

Hi all
Just wanted to ask if anyone has had dealings with The Something Corporation for their broadband and phone deal. A month ago I was contacted by them, and after a lengthy phone call and checks that they seemed genuine, I agreed to a £14.99 deal for phone and broadband (I currently pay around £27 with BT) . The problem is that since then I had no communication whatsoever from them. The number they gave for their helpline is 08716641400 which I discovered on this forum was the number for the notoriously fraudulent SatCo, which duped a lot of people out of bogus direct debits, and was owned by the Something Group. The caller had given me a name and a reference number so I phoned their headquarters after finding their number and they said they don't know of such a person working for them and have no details of my address. I am now seriously worried and have called my bank to stop any charges or direct debit from that company, but they said that since I gave them my card number and sort code, they would be able to take a payment even without a direct debit. I feel really stupid now, I thought I had checked properly but it now seems really shady. Has anyone had deals with this company and can give feedback? I am quite concerned now and also want to warn other people of this possible scam. Thanks!

'Lose' your debit card and get it re-issued, the bank can't stop a recurring debit without authorisation from the payee, crazy though it might seem. never use recurring debits where you can use DD's, which you control.
