I What I believe Cyberbob is saying is that unless your buyers routinely leave you a 5* for 'excellent' on your postage (and will they do that if they have been charged a lot extra?) you run a real risk on your business model as you sick down the best match views. If you go down to far you lose any seller discounts you may get as a powerseller and can't have a featured shop, go down even lower and you face suspension.

Yes thats what I was trying to say. Should have made it a little clearer. I've done the same as you bought items from sellers as thats the only place i could get them . The overall cost was OK, but the postage was High so they got a positive and marked down on there DSRs. Its a very Risky strategy what the OP is doing, but as I said earlier if they beleive the risk its worth it that is there decision

the problem with the dsr rating system is that combined with the one way negative feedback system it has created a dictatorial buyer attitude.

buyers now expect to buy an item the engage the seller in a discussion whereby they expect to be able to dictate to the seller what they will pay for postage, how it should be sent, i want you to use this service i don't want you to use that service, why is your price so high? sell it to me cheaper or i'll neg you, ok i'll pay but don't expect anything higher than three stars on your dsrs.

i challenge any of these buyers to walk into any major high street store with that attitude and see how long it takes until they have security throw you out on your ear.

no business will enter into discussion with you about the price of an item or how much they make on that item or anything else for that matter, the price you see is the price you pay, don't like it? ............don't trip on the step as you leave........

I'm never the cheapest on eBay, and now and again I get a spate of emails saying they could get it cheaper elsewhere and they'll buy from me if I'll reduce my price.

I'm running out of really nice ways to say "go buy it from someone else then you muppet!"

About half the time they come back and say they'd rather buy it from me cos the other guy looks a bit dodgy or something.

So they want my genuine items, fab service and mostly glowing FB record - but at his prices!

OP the basic rule is ask before you buy, cos it's rude to try and dictate different terms later.

too many ebayer buyers expect to pay just the postage cost, so if the actual postage costs £2, they expect to pay exactly £2, what about the packaging materials, what about the fuel cost, parking cost that is usually incurred by the seller, you act as if the seller should be doing you a favour and giving you postage at the cost of the stamp. If a seller puts £2 postage on an eBay listing and it costs £2 to post they have already lost out if the buyer pays by PayPal because although eBay don't charge any fees on the postage price, PayPal do.

i know my point was that people buy stuff of ebay and it gets sent through royal mail, sometimes the label RM put on the package states the postage cost, so if the postage was £2 the buyer then expects to have only been charged £2 but was instead charged £3, so leaves a low mark against the postage which is just unfair

I blocked a buyer yesterday as he feels 'difficult' I have an item for sale which I expect to go for around £65 (£80 would be nice!) and is currently just below £50 in the bidding. Buyer A emails me to say that he really wants my item but he notices I am charging £5.40 for special delivery which he thinks is excessive, and if he wins he is happy for me to use 1st class instead and reduce his invoice. He has reassured me that I don't need to worry as he is a genuine buyer with all positive feedback and I will be completely safe.

Right, I can feel my DSRs suffering from here when I politely refuse to downgrade my postage method.

    Blocked.

I have just sold three school dresses on ebay, excellent condition and the buyer lives not far so I know they are going to want to collect. So they have gone for 99p, by the time I pay the fees there will be nothing left. On the invoice is an option to make a charge for collection, has anyone ever done this.

I realise in this case its too late, I can't charge now as I should have shown it i my listing.

Also something else has gone to someone in denmark when i had only quoted for uk postage. This buyer could end up balking if the price is to hight to ship abroad.

You're probably right to block them. We've had a couple of buyers that just felt "wrong" so we blocked them before they could buy the item and either deny receipt, or mark down heavily on stars / feedback etc.

Worst one was when we sold an Xbox 360, and a buyer kept asking (with only 10 minutes or so before it finished) which DVD drive was in it. When we said we didn't know (console was already boxed and wrapped, just waiting for the Parcel Force label), they said something like "OK, I'll place my bid, and then you can find out after the item's finished". I got the feeling that'd have been an NPB if they'd won it, so I didn't give them the chance.

also dont forget that if it is a business selling they may be vat reg. so although you are not charged vat on a stamp at PO they have to charge vat on their postage, as they are offering a service. I realise this does not apply to all sellers / items, but does to those businesses vat reg.
