BT Broadband users - Go Max / free calls - don't forget

I've had a quick look around here to see whether anything has been made of the fact BT Broadband Max has been launched and couldn't find anything, so, in the spirit of giving something back, I thought I'd post explaining a little about this if anyone is unsure.
Basically, if you're a BT Broadband user, you'll have the chance to up your speed to up to 8MB, which is by far fast enough for most web operations. This will not cost you any additional money on your broadband.
BUT: it does tie you into a twelve month contract, so if you're looking to go faster or find something a little cheaper, then don't go for it.
At the moment, anyone who is on broadband option 3 (£26.99) or option four (29.99) can asked to be upgraded to up to 8mb. If you're on option one (£17.99) or option two (£22.99) you can either ring up and register your interest now or register online at faster.bt.com. The new speeds will be launched for option one and two by the end of this month / beginning of May.
A quick explanation of how it works: the advisor will select 'BT Broadband Max' and your line will be tested over a period of ten days to see the absolute fastest your line can support. The results will then be analysed and your line will be capped at the fastest reliable speed, hence up to 8mb. You'll be notified of this in an email. You do have to live very close to the exchange to hit above 7Mb.
Also: if you're an option four customer and have been for a while, don't forget you can now get your evening and weekend calls for free using BT Broadband Voice.
Furthermore: if you're an option three or an option four existing customer and purchased your equipment from BT when you signed up - presuming you don't already have one, you're entitled to a wireless router for £10.
Ahem. Just thought I'd put down what I know

Thanks, ahrimaniac, I emailed BT for information about the 8MB upgrade and I got some complete rubbish that bore no resemblance to the information that I have just got from the website you recommended.
The BT customer service people just don't seem to have a clue!
Thanks very much for the information - I understand it all a lot better now.0 -
