Cold callers trying to sell contract deal to me.

Last night, phone rang, indian call centre, I could just about understand their English.
Anyway, they were offering 9 months free contract and then 9 months at £39 per month. Something like that anyway.
So I said "no good, I've got a PAYG and it cost me £16 and I pay £10 per month maximum to use it".
I let him talk at length about everything and about a free holiday token I was going to receive and a wonderful phone. I took my time.
Then said "no good, it's not cheap enough".
After several revisions, he still couldn't beat my £10 per month, so I got put onto the supervisor, who obviously thought that he was top salesman of the year and launched into a long spiel about why this deal was so good.
So I said "you still can't beat £10 per month"
etc etc
eventually they said "OK sir, sorry we can't help you, good night and God bless".
So, my PAYG is the best option for me and they gave up.

I was phoned by someone pretending to represent 3, saying they were working in association with them. Then she asked if I had received a renewal offer from 3; I said 3 already knew the answer to that. I asked my name; she had no details. I asked why she was calling from Romania, as I wasn't aware that 3 had any business there. She went on for some length, saying it would really benefit me to listen. After I said the eighth or ninth time that I was not interested, she accused me of wasting her time - I actually shouted at her to get lost!0

Ive had LOADS of these. I think Orange were the ones sending my no on, or whatever they do, cos they keep saying your orange contract is coming up for renewal. I havent been with orange for some years.
I ALWAYS tell them to remove my no from the database & not contact me again. In fairness I havent had any contact from these callers for some months now 9 (iwas getting about 4 a week) , touch wood I wont hear from them again. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I get calls from people like this almost on a daily basis.
As soon as they ask 'Is that Mr or Mrs *****' I hang up. they are a pest. My number is meant to be ex-directory as well!!0 -
these type of calls really used to annoy me............
now (after a tip from a friend) i get a perverse satisfaction from saying..ooooh hang on a minute and then going and doing the washing up or make a cup of tea, or go to the shop and leaving them hanging on....... :rotfl:
then return to the phone about 10 mins later and just hang up
.....maybe i should get out more!£61.20 x 20p today (start date 07/03)
£184.00 x £2

i'v had a few of these, all of which were from india representing 3... they just dont get of the phone, you tell them you'v already got a contract and its still got 10 months till it finishes, they ask if friends/family want a contract and speak sooo fast! once, i got annoyed and put the phone down... 10seconds later, the person rings back again!!! arghhhh!!!!!0

I just say it's a company mobile which it is, and I have no control over the contract, which I don't and they soon go away and waste someone else's time. I have a couple of other deals on tarrif matches ( so I only pay if I actually use it) but they don't cost anything so I doubt they could beat it.
Even if yours isn't a company phone tell them a white lie they don't hang about.0 -
I always wait for the person to speak when I answer my phone now and when they ask for me, they always ask for Mrs K B***
Somewhere someone's given them my middle name instead so I know it's a sales call - I don't say anything just put them on mute and then listen to them on the handsfree - hello, hello,...is anyone there????....and so on, until they get fed up and go away - lol

Register your details with the telephone preference service (TPS) if the calls you get are on your landline number. It takes about a month, then you should stop getting these calls.Their web address is https://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps0

I certainly would second this. If you mention that they are in breach of the TPS, they soon hang up.
It was interesting to note after some recent escapade between my partner and a market reserach company on the phone, that market research companies are not governed by the TPS. However, most UK companies will take a polite email as a good reason to leave you alone. Insert the appropriate substitte words here!0
