Boiler Installation Gas Certificate

Firstly, I had a Glow Worm Betacom 24c boiler installed yesterday for £1418. I think the price is a little steep for a cheap boiler but that isn't the issue as £1500 seems about the minimum when I've been looking. The job appears to be fine.
My problem is, I have been told that I should have been issued with a certificate or the job is worth nothing. I haven't been given a certificate though. The bill has a corgi number on but that's all. I've read that corgi aren't even used in the UK now though.
I still owe them £600 as they wanted as much cash as possible for obvious reasons. They claimed that we were meant to pay the whole amount in cash to "deVAT" it because they'd done us a favour by doing the job for £1400 instead of £1800. Complete lies I would imagine.
Anyway, do I hold the rest of the money back until I get a certificate? Can anyone confirm that I do need a certificate?

Unsure about a certificate. But if they are gas safety regd then just a reciept from them should be ok. i have had too get a gas safety certificate for a rental in the past. i personaly would not ask for one for my own residential home. As long as i had a reciept with there gas safe rigister number on.
They can be checked here gassaferegister . co .uk On the subject of the price, Boiler swap-outs are nothing but a con. The mark-up is Scandalous0 -

Good evening: The installation must be notified to Building Control then a Building Compliance Certificate will be issued via post...see more here. Check your RGI's registration (or lack thereof ) on Gas Safe Register ( GSR took over from CORGI on 1 April 2009).
You're not the first MSEr to find themselves in this situation...the cowboys continue to roam and prosper by undercutting the honest RGIs and duping consumers.

Good evening: The OP had a new boiler installed
...he isn't renting out a property and needing a Landlord's certificate as required by law....hope you had a CP12 for your rental property as a receipt is not sufficient.

Undercutting, lol most are ripoff merchants anyhow, £1500 to fit a boiler that costs £800 and takes a day to fit in most circumstances.. I.e. Ripoff, in fact most people now wouldn't trust a gas fitter as far as they could throw one lol.
Using the gas legislation to bump up prices.
