For me, if I used my loved ones as my HP i would be doing what I thought they wanted not what was best for me. I need someone/something neutral to help me sort my head out and straighten out my thinking. I am only talking for me here, I'm not judging anyone else.

My feeling is that I am here to learn lessons and become a better person - I needed to be absolutely desperate before I gave in and asked for help. It took a long time before my HP became a loving HP that wanted the best for me rather than the punishing, judgemental HP of my childhood. While that was happening I used the power of my group, nature and anything else I could hang on to.
