You people seem to be very prescriptive of the circumstances in which new members can post! Is there a test, an exam we have to pass before we are allowed to speak?0 -
Post removed upon request.

PS Been sailing, no wind, two hours for 20 minutes of drifting. One minute it was there, the next it was gone, some sense of humour the big fella has:rolleyes:0 -
Thats a shame Al, bet it was nice and peaceful out there though.0

For many it is that simple. For others it isn't.
Like i have said in earlier posts, my sister is an alcoholic and has been struggling with this for a long time now, but calling this thread a self help group is not right, self help is not hanging about with others that are constantly getting bladdered and this i do know aint a help to those that genuinely are fighting the addiction. Most posters have made it clear that newbies are not welcome unless they are shouting how beered up they are, we may not be alcoholics but it does mean we can look at things from other angles, but maybe sober ideas are not what some are really looking for, we dont have to have a drink addiction to understand an addiction0 -

not looking for sympathy just sharing this rollercoatser
and its support

The support is for everyone, in the last thread, we helped people with wide ranging problems with alcohol. Maybe helped is a wrong way to put it, we talked to those folks and put in our own wisdom that we have learnt ourselves.
Wide ranging indeed is our experience with alcohol, amongst us, we have people with the problem of alcohol abuse ourselves, people whose parents have had and do have problems, people with partners who abuse alcohol and people whose family members do and have abused alcohol.
We will never turn away someone who is in need, never try to talk down to that person, never treat them any differently to the way we ourselves would like to be treated, that is the way we are and it is the way we should be.
I do hope that everyone from the old thread will come across to this new one, I know some people are already too intimidated to post, I say to you, pm me, pm any of us and we will do all we can, we're not perfect, we're not the be all and end all of all alcohol problems, we never tried to be.
The initial thread was started by me, for one reason only, because I was on the edge of taking my own life, that is the truth, some wonderful people helped me, stopped me on the edge and the thread evolved into helping alot of other people, some don't need or want to come and post all the time, some do and some have helped others.
Whatever, in some way we can all help other people on mse.
xx

I did suggest yesterday HoneyB that the thread title can easily be changed.
New users are always welcome on MSE but not when they are posting purely and simply to cause trouble, no matter where in MSE this happens.
Because of the problems this particular thread has had of course users are suspicious of new users but I certainly haven't found it is because as you put it "they aren't beered up".
Most people aren't looking for help, just some comfort and a cheery word.
Martin and the Team have allowed this thread and many others, I might add across MSE, for this very reason, so users can feel they are amongst friends.
If you read a lot of the posts on this thread it isn't because they have the problem with alcohol but because their nearest and dearest do and just posting on here can help them realise they aren't alone.0 -

Maybe you need a support group for families/friends of alcoholics ?
Obviously you are gonna see things from a slightly different angle compared to some other people from here. Alcoholism is going to affect you in a different way because you have to deal with a family member who abuses alcohol, more people here are the abusers (I think) if you see what im saying.
Its like me quitting smoking im gonna take more notice from someone who has been there compared to someone who has not gone through the same thing as me.
Im hoping that people who need help/support will not be put off from posting....keep hanging in there you lot, you are doing ok :T0 -

It seems to me you are quite selective as to who you have decided to have a go at, why not take on me instead of one of the most vunerable?0 -
