Nokia N97 on PAYG

Hi guys,
I am new to this site so apologise in advance if this is posted in the wrong place etc etc
Last week I lost my mobile on T-Mobile, no Insurance so need to purchase a new phone. I have seen the Nokia N97 in a 3 shop for £369.99 which seems a bargain for the phone. The guy in the shop said that 3 customer services will unlock any PAYG phone for £15 as im not keen on taking it to my local market incase it screws it up.
Can anyone confirm that 3 can actually do this as I dont want to get a phone on 3 which I then cant use my SIM card in.
