    When you post your wrong "impression", then expect it to be corrected for the benefit of not only the thread starter but others reading the thread and looking for reliable advice.

    I have no disagreement with you at all and seek no row.
    I sought clarification with a question and said "apologies if I've misunderstood".
    Yes I totally agree it should be thrashed out for the benefit of the OP and others.

    There is clearly a distinction between the insurance requiements for driving without stopping and stopping on the public highway, which is now clear to me.

    I've just renewed my insurance and noticed this in the information -
    Do Not Renew
    If you've decided not to renew your insurance, please click on Do Not Renew. All cover will stop on expiry of your current policy and it will be illegal to park or drive the car on the public highway unless you arrange alternative cover.

    Well my insurance runs out next week, so the car's going no matter what! I've stuck it on an auction - let's see what happens:
