However, for some people, whatever the reason, MSE could be the only contact they have with others in any day. This makes it important to them - whether it is important to other posters or not.
I copied this to quote from another discussion around this, I hope thats ok?:)
Until relatively recently this was me. I am a long way in recovery for a serious illness, and though I am more mobile and out and bout I often see noone but my mother on a weekday:o Along with the change in lifestyle and change in appearance this really does impact on ones self esteem etc and the more isolated and ''low'' one gets the harder it is to make improvements on it.
Though I am no longer reliant on th internet in the way I was (I was almost housebound, bed bound for a couple of years) I am far less socially active than I used to be. This has obviously impacted on self esteem. Using the internet for social stimulus and ''writing practice''(especially as I have liguistic problems, -which is why my typos can be so bad-) is a saviour for me. I can imagine it can the same for recently retired workoholic singles or new mums and a range of other people.
I still have low endurance, so I tend to have two rests a day:o, and weekday evenings. through out the day to keep motivated I do ten little jobs then refresh MSE so, for some of us it really can be an important line of communication.

Although I don't always have time to contribute to the clothes/fashion threads I do like to read them and I think they do fit in with the money saving theme on this site. As anyone who reads them will know they are all about making the most of what you have, getting the best value for money and having a bit of fun. Yes some people have more expensive clothes then others but my understanding of the whole MSE idea is not about buying as little of the cheapest things you can, it is about getting the best value, not spending more then you can afford and not buying unneccesary things but still buying what you want or need.
I do agree that there should be a sub board for fashion/clothes but in the absence of one I think anyone that doesn't like the clothes threads should just not read them, if your faveroite threads aren't on the front page then you could always post in them to get them back to the top, or bookmark them so there is no need to search through.
I don't like the idea of merging the clothes threads as it makes them much more difficult to read and certain topics will just lost in there. I would like to see more clothes and fashion related threads.

Gosh we'll start blushing! :rotfl:
If you really feel that another board is in order then present it to MSE towers - but not as "get these off the x board" but present a case for why a new board with it's own identity (and specify what MSE case there is for it) is needed. If you can give them a "THIS exact board is what we need, this is why and this is why we feel it needs to be seperate etc" then it's far more likely to be acted on (although obviously not guaranteed!)
Thanks for that!
I have bumped my original thread up to the top of the Site Feedback. Questions and Suggestions Board.
If anyone has the time and energy to submit a further case, feel free to post another thread or add on to my existing one:D0 -
I am not sure why people are so bothered about what appears where on MSE. Old threads really aren't that hard to find and if it's something you've already posted on (and even been thanked for) you can go to a recent post and view all your old posts from there.
I don't agree with one mega long thread for clothes etc. The OS has a daily thread why not H&B? And the "what are you wearing" thread is NEVER about fashion or spending shed loads of money more people being pleased about what bargains they bought!
TBH it all smacks of being a bit of possessive. I am not particularly interested in Chemist Direct or tooth whitening etc but I don't begrudge these threads being in existence, let alone being on the front page.
live and let live I say. it's only a forum after all.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
