Blooming BT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sioooooooooo angry.

just went online to pay my bt bill, normally pay it over the phone, up comes a nice £280 for my old address for october 05 - jan 06. Funny i moved out of that address in september, they know that, they gave me a new number, now i am on hold AGAIN, telling me i never cancelled my old account, i don't know how many times i told her i spoke to the moving department and told them i was moving, for goodness sake they know i've moved i have a new number at a new house. They say it isn't their fault and i never cancelled the old line. I thought thart is what moving departmentss were for!!!!!

Just come off hold talking to her supervisor to say they are discussing this, what is there to discuss the people at my old address are obviously having a whale of a time phone parties galoure there, hey call all your friends and they can use an account BT never bothered to change that we don't have to pay for.

I just asked her to call me back as my battery is dying on my phone, surprise she was unable to do this as well....

So i got her name and am going to call back when i have calmed down a bit...

Really don't know what to do about this one....

Have you got the dates or times or names of when you spoke to them? You should just tell them that you moved out and that you wont pay the bill from your old address! Do you remember what the moving department said - or ask the person next time you phone what it is the moving department actually does!

You should try contacting OFCOM - the regulator for the telecommunications industry - they may be able to give you some advice!

I had a similar problem once, I got a new phone line put in with a new number, then after a few months somebody moved into the house where the number was taken from and it was as though you had two handsets in one house, except it wasnt one house it was two seperate addresses, anyway I called BT and told them what was happening and the faults dept cut the other houses line - I thought that was the end of it until I got the bill (they had made loads of premium calls whilst they ahd access to the line) so I called BT and explained to them what had happened - THEY SAID IT HADNT and that I was liable for the full bill, I said to them it had and it was BT themselves who had sorted it out - so it must have been on their system somewhere - they did an "investigation" (which obviously consisted of putting the phone down and doing nothing) again they came back and said it hadnt - so i told them to shove their bill and never paid a penny, so i got all my calls for free too!!! (happy days!!!)
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D

    Hi

THanx for both your comments. I posted a compaint letter to them asking for all records of my calls to them under the DPA, see how they like that.

I also told them exactly what happened who i spoke to yesterday how 'disturbed' i was by the whole thing and if it was not sorted i was going to ofcom.

    See how they like that!!!

there is a charge of £10 for applications under the dpa. call 150, if they don't help ask to speak to a customer service manager.

And pray tell how are BT supposed to know that you do not still own both houses. I know several people with two homes and therefore two phones. If they automatically cut you off in that situation then you would have a right to complain as well. They cannot win.

You could involve the police as the other occupants have been stealing phone usage.

Because i rang the moving department and told them i was moving, not once did they ask if i owned both properties, the fact being that i don't and i am a council tenant. Haven't had a response, but there should be something done to protect the customer.

did you STIPULATE that you required the old line to be ceased? If you did not, you may have a hard time fighting this one, as bt record all calls, which, incidentally, is why they won't generally call you back.

and by the way, the "moving department" is sales. I used to work there, and what a shower of mercenary little b*stards they are.

    good luck!

oh, and have a look at https://www.btsuck.org . A lot of BT staff hang out there, and may be able to advise further (actually, scratch that, it seems to have turned nasty - bt employees for you" :) )

    Hi

I didn't feel the need to stipulate that i didn't need the old line, the conversation went something like i am moving house and would like to take my number with me, but madam it will be a lot quicker if we gave you a new number........

So they knew by that i wasn't going to be there any longer.

    It's just such a pain.

If they dispute you moving house then show them your tenancy agreement from the council that shows that you moved out from one address and into another address. This will give them the exact date that you moved out.
Also I assume you told the other utilities that you moved out and are now in a new house somewhere else, I'll bet they got it right! You could use the fact that you told the other utilities that you were moving.
Do you have itemised billing on you phone biills (mobile? - you mentioned that the battery was going) this will give you dates and times of when you called.
We used this for when we were in dispute with British Gas and luckily we could prove when we called them.
