Asus EEE keeps turning page back

Strange one here, but ever since I've had this Asus EEE (btw can anyone tell me if these little laptops are known as notebooks?) when I'm browsing the internet every so often the cursor goes into a sort of spasm, wobbles for about 15 seconds, then the page I'm viewing turns back to the previous one. I can forward arrow and get back to where I was, but on YouGov surveys I lose all my responses and have to start again, which is really annoying.
It runs on Firefox, via an ethernet cable, which I think means it is wifi (I believe these machines all have wifi built in) although it won't connect without the cable.
I haven't asked about this before because I'm not sure whether it's a regular problem with wifi, or with Firefox, or with small laptops.
I don't suppose it is fixable but just wondered whether anyone else has the same problem.

Right - first of all there is no such official thing as a "laptop", the term has been removed from all promo material for years since some guy got burnt using his laptop on his lap, so they now call all portable computers notebooks.
The Asus eee laptop range is called a netbook as they are all so small and portable.
WiFi means it can connect to the internet without a cable being used (but you'll need a WiFi router to connect the laptop to to actually make it work).
It isn't specifically a problem with WiFi, Firefox or small laptops - most likely you just haven't set it up right.
I've had a 701 and I know several people with the range inbetween and I haven't heard of this before. It sounds like something might be on the trackpad perhaps?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Cheers for all that info. It has clarified a lot.
After posting my OP I thought maybe it is my BT connection. Being in a flat, there are about 6 to 8 wireless hotspots within range when I log on, so I wondered if it was picking up signals from them, even though obviously all are password protected, except for the BT Openzone one.
I wouldn't have a clue how to put right anything that is set up wrong, so I guess I'll just have to live with it.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0 -
It's not that it's setup wrong - it just might not be setup at all!
You say you have a BT connection - do you have a HomeHub (either a black or white thing) or do you have one of the older Voyagers (colours may vary)?
If it's a homehub then you have wireless, if it's a voyager then you don't.
If you have Wireless, then you need to make sure that the PC is trying to connect to right access point, and that the WEP code is correct. Is your eee running Windows or Linux?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
There were? Didn't know that...
Ok - if it has an antenna on the back such as this Voyager, then it's wireless as well.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
It is a white BT upright standing home hub with one antenna, and a row of five lights, three of which go green when I power up. I'm pretty sure there isn't a problem with this as I've been using it for over a year and the only problem I have is the page turning thing.
They have brought out a much fancier black one now but I am tied into a 18 month contract. It works fine so as I say I don't think this is the trouble.
I have to enter my WAP (is that right?) code before I can get into the net so I'm sure I'm on the right one! I see all the neighbouring ones listed, but can only access mine as the others are all locked except for BT Openzone.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0 -
Are you on Windows or Linux? I'd manually remove the network, then try to connect again by opening a list of networks and making sure the name "BTHomeHub-xxxx" of the one you are trying to connect to is the same as the one written on the back of the HomeHub, it should be labelled as the SSID.
Then re-enter the WEP code (again on the back of the HomeHub) and see if it works, it could well be a neighbour also has a HomeHub and the names are similar and you've been connecting to their by mistake.
EDIT - All HomeHubs are "locked" (i.e. shown as secured without a code to access them by default on Windows), once you enter a code and try to connect, Windows will remove the lock symbol even if the code you've typed in is wrong.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
This is getting far too complicated for me I'm afraid. I don't even understand what you are suggesting in para 1, and in any case I am not techie skilled enough to do it, and wouldn't even dare be talked through it.
All the neighbouring hotspots have their own prefix on the list, including mine which was advised to me when BT posted me my set-up instructions, so I choose the one with my own prefix and put the full code in. Some of the others listed are BT, a couple are Sky and one has someone's name as a prefix.
As this runs on Firefox I presume it is Linux. It isn't Windows anyway. I don't actually know what Linux means - told you I was a novice.
Got to pop out shortly, thanks for the replies. Back later.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0 -
Firefox is on both Windows and Linux..
For comparison, if your desktop looks like this:
Your running Linux
If it looks like this:
Your running Windows.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
It's Linux! :T:rotfl:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0
