Orange PAC Code
Options
My OH has recently switched from Orange to Vodafone and wanted to keep her current number.
We phoned Orange and requested the PAC and was told it would take 5 working days (through the post) - a long time, but fair enough.
Well, we waited 5 days and no PAC came. Phoned again last night and complained and low and behold, we were given the code immediately over the phone!!
Seems like stalling tactics to me, but maybe that's my paranoia.
I mean, what's that all about!!

I think that they are indeed stalling those 5 days, that time is for your request to work its way through their retentions department and for them do decide whether to call you and offer you a killer deal to stay. Unfortunately for Orange they ran out of time in your case0

Aren't mobile telephone operators required by Ofcom to provide the PAC in 2 working days?0

they are required to transfer the number in 2 working days, but they can post the PAC code which and usually take 5 working days.0

Certainly are stalling tactics as when I was with Orange (a few years ago when they were decent) I was given my PAC by text within a few minutes of asking.0 -

My OH rang 07973100450.
All you need to do is ring them and request the PAC (Porting Authorisation Code). You'll have to work your way through the call center options before you speak to anyone. Make sure that while you're on the call you confirm your address with them as initially it will be sent by post. Also clarify how long this will take. To be honest I don't think anything ever gets posted, as we never received anything in the end.0 -
I havent recieved mine either after 7 days. Im only on PAYG but used to top up quit a bit a month. Its a pain in the rear having to carry 2 phones everywhere.
shame on you orange, i aint topping up again no matter how long you make me wait. We should be able to switbh our numbers instantly like your able to all over europe.0 -

Seven days is WAY too long. Phone them up, tell them you haven't received it and request it immediately by either text message or verbally. As mentioned earlier, they have an obligation to get the PAC to you within a fixed period.0 -

It is true! Orange has to give you your PAC within 2 working days of when you request it (see www . ofcom . org . uk / advice / guides / Transferring_Mobile_Guide . pdf) if they don't they are breaking the law!
If you haven't received you PAC within the time they 'told' you then phone them up and say:
"I phoned orange (DATE); and you, Orange, told me that you'll post me my PAC within (X) days. I haven't received it. And according to OfCOM I should have received the PAC within 2 working days, and I obviously haven't. Can I have my PAC now please, otherwise I will be contacting OfCOM"
This happened to me. They said "We'll post your PAC through the post and it should arrive within 5 working days". It never did. A week later I phoned them again and that's what I said, the stuff above. Surely enough they were scared when I said the word "OfCOM" and so swiftly sent me a text with my PAC. :rotfl:0 -
Have you read the other thread on this board?
I think 5 days you have it good taking in account that they do nothing else then sending PAC code out this week!!
You've got it now and move on.0
