Still Waiting After 2 Months

Hi,
On Monday 18th May, i had a bump with a parked car while i was driving into a parking space where i work,
damage to both cars was about foot long scratches to both,
anyway the driver found me and we swapped details,
he told me in the end if i was willing for him to get an indepedent quote and i pay up front instead of going through the insurers, i agreed as im a new driver(since march) and didnt want to claim.
he rang me on the wednesday and said the cost would be £305.90:eek: including VAT. i agreed and sent the cheque on monday 25th.
he said when the cheque had cleared and work had been carried out he would send me an invoice.
well the cheque cleared 2nd june and 2 month later ive heard nothing.

im just wondering if anybody has had a similar experience and whether i should ring him and ask for the invoice.
i might have been scammed? im not sure lol,
he worked in the car industry and was very down to earth,
and he said the company used the garage for many years.
thoughts?

All hindsight but you should have seen the quote. Perhaps he didn't get it fixed? Perhaps you have been scammed? You have his address, perhaps you could pay him a visit (without being seen) and take a look at his car.

    Then you'd know.

You damaged his car, he told you the repair cost, you paid it (and can prove it)

I’d say that was an end to it

Yep, by paying you admitted liability and the price quoted, which seems reasonable in any case. Wether he has or has not had the work done or payed that amount is irrelevant now:confused:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

The invoice is of no use to you. I would just move on.

If it ever happens again alwasy ask to see the written quote and if possible pay the garage directly.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Is there any reason for wanting the Invoice??

No doubt the guy either didn't bother with the repair and pocketed the money as a kind of compo from you

or got the work done for less than you gave him and pocketed the rest as a kind of compo from you.

I don't think you have an argument in either case so I can't see the point in persuing it unless you receive a letter from his insurers.

My sister nudged a car parked at the garage next to us the first time she got in it, and we didn't go through insurance... this was rather light damage to the rear bumper and wait for it... he charged us £800!. He said he would bring the receipt round on 'monday', but to this day we have never seen it. At least we don't live far away from their cars, if anything were to happen ;)

Paying direct like this is not advised.

Unless you know what you are doing, by paying up you are admitting responsibility for the incident. Injured parties have 3 years to make a claim off you for personal injury and 6 years to discover more damage to their property as a result of the collision. Also how do you know they aren't scamming you, and getting you to pay for other damage/inflating the quote etc?

Pass the claim onto your insurer and let them deal with it (they may contest the liability, and end up only paying a portion if liability is split between the two parties, or nothing at all if liability isn't accepted). Then once the matter is closed, you can always reimburse your insurer if you want to and have your NCB reinstated.

If you hit a parked car then it can not be the parked cars fault, so admitting liability is the right thing to do, also going through the insurance for a £300 claim would work out more expensive in the long run (in most cases)

Even if he hasn't had the work done you have not been scammed, If he's happy to live with the damage and keep the £300 an compensation that's down to him, his car will be worth more than £300 less with the damage caused by you, so if he's happy with it theirs no scam taken place and you've paid up for what you caused.
