Do VHS "actually" sell on amazon?
Lethal
I've been wondering, do video tapes actually sell on amazon, cause i just cant imagine they do as hardly anyone uses them. I've got loads which i dont need lieing in a box and i was wondering whether it would be worth my time trying to sell them on amazon, or whether i should just go and dump them at my local charity shop.
Any previous experiences would be nice.
Thanks :T

Rare or specialist titles can still get a bit, particularly if they have not been released on DVD. Otherwise probably not.0

I have sold some ultra rare videos on Amazon, but only ones where they have never been released on DVD.
The postage credit for videos is so poor that you can't even break even unless you charge a couple of quid for a VHS, so be careful of that. However, if you have a couple of hours to spare you can easily see if you have anything valuable, just search for them using the bar code and see what is already listed. Keep an eye on the ranking as well though as it is no good have £10 copies if the sales ranking is high.
lastly, be careful with your description, make sure you state that it is a VHS as the Amazon search is terrible for DVD/VHS and it is a common problem for buyer to buy what they think is a DVD when it is in fact a VHS and correctly listed.
Common vids though will almost certainly have to be dunped, it is almost impossible to get rid of them even on freecycle and many charity shops won't take them anymore.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As soolin says, common videos you probably have no chance of selling, and there's just no point even trying, but rare ones can still be worth loads- I've sold rare videos of mine for as much as £50, and if you look on ebay there are some vids that go for much more! So it's definitely worth looking, as you might have a few gems, but if it's a VHS of a popular movie, especially if it's out on DVD, then you can be pretty sure it won't sell0

Just keep them.. stuff them away somewhere and show the grandchildren when there older

When there watching HD off a 1x1 HD player:)0 -
I have got better prices for some rare VHS on ebay than on amazon. Normal videos you can pick up for pennies in most charity shops so its not really worth trying to sell them0

What exactly do you class as "rare"?MSE allowed me to see the light0

I know somebody who sold a VHS tape for over £80. It was of an 80s film, never put onto DVD. She got it at a carboot as part of a fiver bundle of videos.
Search for every title you've got on eBay and see what they go for.0 -
I've sold a couple on amazon, never tried on ebay. Just look beforehand and see what they're listed for.0

I would say if it's not been released on DVD, or is a different 'version' to one that has.
I have bought a VHS of The Wild Geese. The DVD's of this film have a scene that has the incorrect colour (it's a scene that was shot day-for-night. The scene is set at night, however the DVD show it as bright daylight).
Do some research on the films you have on VHS and see if any are cult classics or just blockbuster type.0 -
I took a load of videos to my local charity shop (Age Concern) and they said that they did not sell well and they had a load in the back! I had to take them away with me. I eventually gave them away on Freecycle but without the usual mountain of replies. They were childrens videos including a lot of DisneyWendy0
