GioInternet & Debt Collectors Xmas greetings..
Hi Martin,
Here is a diabolical situation that I'm sure you would like to know about, relating to Gio Internet and GIO Debt Collection Agents/Westcot.
Apparently several hundred folk have received a most threatening Debt
Collection Notice with threats of legal action OR Personal Visits by Debt Collectors IF satisfactory settlement is not effected by 3rd January 2005.
Most of the billing supposedly relates to services cancelled some two years ago / NOT disconnected by GIO / and Clients continuing to
use the services without further payment (?)
No details are given of the DEBT other than a monetary figure owed(?)
Calls to Westcot do not present any further information other than "you must call GIO (premium rate number) if you dispute the amount claimed
Many further variations on this theme emerge in the 290 plus postings in past two days on the https://www.ispreview.co.uk forum for Gio Internet.
The Westcot Credit Services Ltd Notices are dated 20th December 2004.
Below is a copy of my posting a short time ago on the Net4Nowt Forum
for DialUp and Broadband threads:

Martin, reading the threads, it is obvious that this Notice has put many Folk into a state of shock particularly at Xmas time - some
posts, particularly from the young person who used Grandmother's
phone for GIO access in the distant past and Grandmother's distress at receiving a bill for over £800 does not bear thinking about !

Action is being galvanised with Trading Standards Offices / BBC Watchdog / Martins Money Site and various other sources
Amounts claimed vary from £30 odd to over £800 - many claims for services rendered to Folk who have only made enquiries in the past two years

THANK GOD it is not only me!
i too recieved a debt collecters letter in respect of £150 owing to Gio internet. i took out this service over 2 years ago, could not work out how to use it at all and spent at least 4 months trying to cancel it, eventually i sent notice of my cancellation by recorded delivery. i cant remember if they cancelle dit or if i cancelled it online but i do remember it was anightmare at the time and it is a nightmare now i have this letter. this is the first correspondence i have everrrr received about gio!!
i am going to read through all these threads now and see what to do, i am certainly not spending hours ringing there premium rate number in a panic, been there done that 2 yr ago >:(0
