this is a medical and not a chemistry situation

All science is Chemistry! As any Chemist will tell you ;)! Biology is all Organic Chemistry, Physics is all Physical Chemistry ;)!

Im getting a solid fuel fireplace, cant afford to buy gas anymore - its only gonna get more expensive :(. Definitely go for efficiency in that respect.

Fine ,but I feel that a specialist is essential,I would not like a Doctor to fit or advise about gas fires, unless he was Corgi reg ,in fact it would not be legal.
Remember you still need a descent flue for solid fuel ,remember to get your chimney swept,or the air -flow on your flue checked, could be fun.
    Take care

Moonrakerz, could I suggest you look at gel fireplaces ? I know they're not real fires, and they don't throw off any heat, but if all you're looking for is the effect, they do that quite well, IMHO. I was looking at them myself, purely from the point of view that you don't need any flue at all. https://www.gelfireplaces.com/flueless-fireplaces.html
Anyone been using a gel fireplace for long? I just bought one from Candela Interiors www.candelainteriors.com and wondered what experiences people have had?
