I wanna gas fire - maybe !

Has anyone had any experience of the new flueless gas fires ?
According to the blurb they are twice as efficient as a conventional gas fire as there is no flue for the heat to escape through.
There has to be a certain amount of ventilation for any room with one of these fires in it. I was wondering if the additional ventilation requirement negated some of the output from the fire.
Also, as all the combustion products go into the room (through catalysts to remove the nasties) is there any noticeable smell produced ? Like a gas cooker.
Any info would be useful - thanks in advance.

Hi moonrakerz,
I have moved your thread over to the In My Home board to see if you can get more replies.

According to the heavy reading on this link they are safe even without any ventilation and you only a 4" square hole anyway. Oh and a room of 40 cubic meters too!

Many thanks,
I had read that link, which said that they were safe - but then it went on to say that the numbers in the trial weren't enough to be a valid sample etc, etc. There were more, "ifs", "buts" and caveats there than in a politcal manifesto !0 -
Moonrakerz, could I suggest you look at gel fireplaces ? I know they're not real fires, and they don't throw off any heat, but if all you're looking for is the effect, they do that quite well, IMHO. I was looking at them myself, purely from the point of view that you don't need any flue at all. https://www.gelfireplaces.com/flueless-fireplaces.html0

Have used one for the last 18months.
Very hot no waste so less gas used 3kw=3kw out
No noticable condensation problems
There can be a slight smell but this only seems to be when warming up
We have been pleased, If you have not got a flue you can sit it anywhere. The measure of love is love without measure0 -

Even if there is no smell, main products are CO2 (see above) and H2O (extra source of humidity in the house). To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

In fact my opinion was against using such a fire despite the fact that flueless fires have catalitic convertors that convert CO to CO2To be happy you need to make someone happy.0
