yes, i would, depending on the cost of the original policy (ie churchill at the minute is £405 inc legal protection, if another company had a policy for £500 but included the cover for other cars i wouldn't consider it)

unbelievable, while hunting around for car insurance from banks and supermarkets, i came across the cheapest quote yet. £380ish (inc legal cover) from Tesco Car insurance, +£40 voucher to spend in store. Looking at the policy summary it looks pretty much the same as others.

    so whats the catch?

Is it their value policy by any chance?

Have you checked what the total excess is (Voluntary Excess PLUS Compulsory Excess)

third party fire and theft, so there is only one for my stolen equipment, which is £100, actually less than any other provider

something that confuses me, the last line of their "T&C"

The annual mileage of your vehicle does not exceed 50,000

yet they ask me what my annual mileage is.. and the premium depends on it. so say I chose 10 000 miles, as far as i know i should drive over 10 000 or i won't be covered, right? i bet this is a stupid question :o

Sounds ok, trhe 50000 limit sounds like an overall exclusion to avoid them covering drivers doing more than 50000 miles.

Have you tried getting a quote for Comprehensive Cover, its often the same price or cheaper than TPF&T on older cars

yeah, but due to my age it is almost is never worth it due to the excess. My "vehicle" isn't worth more than £1000 either. But yes I have tried and it has always come up roughly £50 dearer
  • Nfu offer loyalty discounts, the only problem is you must ask for this discount every year. Each year I search for quotes from other companies but when I take in the level of cover(legal cover and road side cover are automatically included)the tenner or so you might save is not worth it, also if my car has to go in for a service they will cover a car from your garage free of charge. Just make sure if you enter into your NFU policy through farming that you are not paying a buisiness cover(similar to commercial) if you don't use the vechicle for farming purposes. 5***** Company

Domtom have you tried increasing the excess on comprehensive cover, you normally only pay the excess if you claim for the repairs to your own vehicle so ion effect you get TPF&T cover but with windscreen cover thrown in (The excess on windscreen cover is normaly £60ish).

Check to make sure the Insurer does not apply the voluntary excess to Fire and Theft Claims (The vast majority do not, from memory Swiftcover and NU/Aviva do apply any voluntary excess to fire and theft claims so avoid those two)

I did ring NFU to see if they could do anything for me, I told them £666 was too dear compared to £380, so I got a call back later in the day but unfortunately there was nothing they could do about it. The loyalty discount had already been applied. I will most likely be going back to NFU next year when my premiums will drop further, and i have a bit more money in bank.

just tried this, it only really works for admiral. Churchill and tescos both stop me from entering one (i think its because the compulsory excess exceeds the value of the car?)
