Car insurance comparison

Need some advice regarding 4 car insurance providers
Churchill (£375), Direct line(£375), admiral (£445) and elephant (£460)

endsleigh also offers a competitive quote but i'd rather not be insured by them.

my current provider NFU offers me a renewal price of £666, which is much more than the above, but i do lose all of the advantages it offers (eu cover, 3rd party cover on other vehicles, free legal cover, breakdown service)

anyway, could someone please tell me what pros and cons the above companies have? i am (slowly) reading through their T&C's

ideally i want eu cover and 3rd party on other vehicles

Churchill and Directline are both owned by the same company Royal Bank of Scotland which technically you and me both own the majority of. They are both fairly decent companies with UK call centres. They are definately better than Admiral and Elephant and better than Endsleigh.

You may find some cash back deals for Churchill, if you need any advice on cahs back post back up here.

P.S Check the total amount of the voluntary and compuslory excesses added together

Have you tried phoning NFU to see if they will reduce their price?

told NFU about the cheaper quotes and not understanding why my own had only gone down by £10 at renewal despite it going from 2 years NCB to 3 years NCB.

they apologised and offered to "send" me my NCB thing.

i've just been reading the T&C, seems like direct line and churchill are pretty much the same as well as elephant and admiral. the convenience with the latter two is that i get free eu cover 30 days in a row and free legal cover, both of which are charged by C and D.

i haven't had a look at churchills excess, but direct line wants £150.

you mentioned cashback for churchill? i am interested. I have looked on quidco and topcashback but found nothing

churchill wants £150 excess, it also mentions something about a £400 excess for 20 year olds but i wasn't sure if that included myself or only other drivers?

would anyone be kind enough to give me more views on those insurances please? Chances are I will go for churchill... whichever is recommended really.

also information on cashback for any of those would be appreciated, many thanks.

Personally I would go for the Churchill or Direct Line Policy.

Bear in mind that because of your age you will have a compulsory excess due to your age

i doubt that any of those companies will give you driving other cars at 20.

as for excesses, any excess for young drivers will apply. you also need to add voluntary and compulsory excesses together. so if it says

    voluntary excess £150
compulsory excess aged under 25 £400
compulsory excess aged over 25 £250

then your excess for any claim for your car which your insurers pay will be £550. fire and theft excess and windscreen excess will be separate.

okay thanks for the clarification, i wasnt sure if that £400 excess applied to the policy holder or not as it said that the compulsory excess was £150, it didnt say it was voluntary

admiral only has a compulsory excess of £250, so while it is in fact more expensive as a policy it is much cheaper should i have an accident.
