Hi, Punky! There are a lot of suggestions HERE. They're for cigarette smoke, but I'm sure thye'll work just as well for you. I particularily like the sound of the apple and cinnamon one.

I've heard that burning a candle, or oli burner will help to get rid of smells.

You may need to ditch the MW. Is it still safe to use? How about trying Freecycle for a new one?

I'd also be insisting that DH spend his free time redecorating the kitchen, in a style that suits you, to make up for being a prize nugget!

First you could try putting about half an inch of water with a good squirt of lemon juice in the microwave on high for about 2-3 minutes. Long enough to boil and steam up the microwave - not long enough to boil dry!

Second, send him off to B&Q for some sugar soap and a tin of paint of your choice and set him to work.

Third - stop his pocket money for a month and tell him he's a bad ba-a-ad DH :)

Oooohhh Pen Pen & Squeaky - never thought about getting a redecorated kitchen out of this fiasco. Good idea as DH still feeling guilty and being told off every day while smell still lingers  - I like it

Thanks for the ideas guys. Tried the lemon & water thing but only did a minute so should have tried for longer.

you can buy a special fogger for removing odours, not cheap or OS but they do realy work m y mum had a 60 a day fag habit and when she moved pout of her house we had to use one of these to get the smell out of all the crevices! you put then on then vacate for several hours whilst it does its work they are very good!

  • My next door nieghbour had a house fire in February 2006. We are in a terraced house and were lucky it didnt come through. He's had his whole house redecorated, new roof, all sorts.
However when its still outside at night I can STILL smell the smoke!!! To the point where I have actually got up to triple check that houses in the local area arnt on fire!!!
I cant smell it all the time and I am pregnant so might have a sentive nose at the moment - but I would love never to smell that smell again. Its horrible (and really quite scary).
Let me know how you get on and if you discover any solutions!!

This sounds really interesting, but I've tried to find out about it and only come up with stuff to do with mosquito control. Can you give a few more details as to what a fogger is and where you might buy/hire one?

or this (hope link works) apparent;y you need to use a fogger/bomb as the particles are the same size as smoke particles and therefore can get into all the places smoke particles get into!
