Minigrrlzo, this is what I did too! 28 dvds / cds, sold on ebay, with a big spreadsheet. My cost per item was £2.99 all-in, £83.72 for 14000 tesco points! They're all on the system now, as are the 4000 from 4 mobiles I bought (2 in-store and 2 online). Planning to trade the points for airmiles but may start an OU course next time.

Thats £650 for my course, which is the cost of one entire module.

Just noticed this on the OU website:

'The terms and conditions relating to the use of Tesco Clubcard Rewards Tokens for University courses will be changing in June. Until 31st May 2010, you can continue to use Tesco Tokens as full or part payment for any undergraduate level course that is open for registration. From 1st June 2010, Tesco Tokens may only be used as full or part payment towards Level One courses. '

I've already done all my level one courses, so am hoping registration opens for October courses before the end of May (unlikely though) :(

Seems education is only for the privileged hey, those trying to study their way to a better future get penalised at every point. I have paid with the OUSBA for one of my level two modules, and still have three level two to pay for - one of which I have to pay for with the OUSBA as my reward vouchers wont get here quick enough. I will have to hope I can use them from my February statement as I have one course that starts in June. Everything else will then be after the deadline, and I don't know how I will pay for this. I already have £19 a week to live on, and although my earnings are under the threshold I was declined funding.

Depends on the course you're doing, but maybe registration will come through in time? One of mine started in October and had quite early registration, although I can't remember the date. Good luck with your course mate x

Yeah, I'm definitely less than impressed. There's no course fees up yet for courses starting in October so I'll have to give them a ring to find out when they're likely to be up. I do have one level 2 module starting in May that costs £295 (it's only 10 points) so at least I could use some of my vouchers on that, although I had been planning on a relaxing summer!

I'd not seen this on the OU site. I was hoping to do a level 3 in May and in October that lead to a certificte I am almost finished and had saved my points up for  I can't see the registration for the October course being available before the May cut off because they are usually just a month or so before - Maybe I should attempt to do both at once in May although the assessment will fall in July and clash with the kids school hols :(

Grrr this so annoying the OU courses are not worth £200 + anyway, you have to print off all your own notes and they mark the assignments electronically - only just worth £50 of vouchers

  • It says in the article there is a facebook group? Anyone know where? I have searched and can't find it. I want to join. Am fuming. I had been buying and selling bonuspoint stuff like crazy and fortunately I have a summer school module yet to register for before the deadline which I can use £450 worth of February statements points for. But here was me thinking I still had £200 toward my next module - which is a level three and starts in January.

The article is right -lots of us will have to drop out, as I should finish my degree next year, but no way will I have the £1700 I need for my last two level three modules. And like someone said, what does that pay for? 12 x 2 hour study sessions with tutor, and a few text books. For £1700. Was hoping to clubcard my way this year to pay for most of my next two years.

Even more annoying is that I had £20 of vouchers - ok not a lot but "every little helps" towards a module I registered on for this year. But because this takes me 30 points over what I am allowed to study in a year - hello I thought the whole idea of the OU was that it is flexible???? - then unless I can get written consent from the regional Director, then I will have to spend another year studying, and oh look. Thats another module I can't use any points towards. One strongly worded letter already sent to regional director :)

Fells like they are con artists - get you to sign up thinking there was finally a way you can pay for it - then force you to pull out half way through.
