    This is not funny.

I have used eBay quite a lot this Christmas and the prevalence of scams is becoming disgraceful.

eBay should be ashamed of themselves for putting zero effort into trouncing the crooks.

I will mention just one example out of about half a dozen problems directly affecting me this Christmas:

I "won" i.e. bought a Claude Valentini watch. I sniped a bid late at night and picked one up for ten quid including post. Then the silliness began and I smelled a rat.

First off, when I hunted on Google for some clue as to the brilliance of the deal I had just secured, I discovered that Claude Vallentini watches is a scam subject all in its own league! But dozens of the bloody things are sold by eBay to unsuspecting customers like me everyday. The watch (if I ever get it because that's another cr*p eBay story) is a ten quid watch advertised with a certified recommended retail price of £225. So what I got for my ten quid was ten quid's worth of junk when I thought I had bought maybe 3 figures worth of something.

eBay don't seem interested in stopping this kind of misrepresentation or indeed stopping anything that makes them money.

Claude Valentini has already been the subject of BBC Watchdog attention, but no-one really cares enough to seriously DO something about it, do they?

eBay certainly are not interested. They have been prevaricating over the matter for four or five days. Because eBay did not respond with any sensible comment whatever, I decided to pay the guy anyway and put it down to experience. After all, I had never held a Claude Valentini watch and I was becoming curious!

Then the seller did a metamorphosis into a different email address and told me I'd paid the wrong address via PayPal (PayPal is part of eBay). So I managed to cancel the first payment and then paid the new email address. Now he's telling me he can't accept PayPal paid by credit card because his paypal account is too basic. I don't even know his name. Not counting his eBay username, his name could be Dave, jon, john or rick for all I know (he has used all four!).
  • I'm not too sure the scambusters bidding is worthwhile on this sellers auctions. He is providing the scam link for free in his auction text

true but because its free even more people are likely to be conned >:(.the reason for bidding is to increase his e-bay fees which depend on the closing bid amount.

Yes the eBay listing you highlight is illegal in my opinion.

An eBay listing is an advertisement and a trades description amongst other things.

You can't advertise in other places in this manner, and the main part of the description is heavily misleading.

So why do the punters need to read the small print?

Oh yes, I remember now, it's because eBay doesn't care.

I think the only thing against the ebay rules on this auction is that fact that he has listed it in the phone section and not in the ebook/other section. It might get pulled because of that if someone wants to report it.

However, it clearly states it is an e book in more than one place on the text and in the payment box.

If people seriously bid on this and don;t read it first it is hardly ebay's fault. It seems that people will bid on anything and then seem surprised that they don;t get what they want and only get what the person was selling.
