To be fair though, it isn't 3's fault you live in the middle of nowhere and out of range for a signal.

I think we can blame them when we called, told them our post code and they confirmed we would have 'Full Signal' as they covered our area.

yes, i had virtually the same problem with this pointless network.

i had a nokia on an 18 month contract, and i could guarantee, every call i made would drop within a minute. the signal was all over the place, if i moved a foot in one direction the signal would shoot from '0' to full and back!

i too got the same excuse that the phone was faulty but i knew it wasnt the phone as id tried various 3 handsets and all of them acted the same. but would those robots listen? would they hell. they just carried on with their pre-programmed speech as if you never said anything at all!

after the faulty phone excuse, i was then told to manually switch my network to orange. that didnt work either.

honestly, if i didnt laugh at the time, i would have smashed the thing up! but i got the last laugh though, because at the end of the contract, i took great pleasure in letting them grovel to me for days on end to upgrade, and kept telling them id 'think' about it and ask them to ring back. when id finally had my fun, i simply said "nope!" and took the sim card out!

    never again!

    haha!

My husband has been SO close to smashing the phone up!

I have since heard MANY similar stories about 3 from people living in all kinds of areas.

To those who made the comments about 3 not being blamed for us living in the countryside -
As I mentioned originally, he doesn't only get the problem at home, it is EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE. The signal drops randomly all the time.

If you can prove that then maybe you have an argument.

I have a mobile from work on Orange. I CAN get a signal in the garden but not indoors. Does that make the signal bad? Nope.

ive been in the same position as you now for 9 months and 3 have not budged at all.
the only way round it for me was to sell the phone i had with known reception issues and replace it with something better.
the price of your "buy out" sounds far too high though they can only ask for the remainder of the term maximumn.
  • Three are by far the worst phone company i have had the misfortune of having dealings with. would not take no for a answer, and continued to try to bill me after i had cancelled the contract. When i tried to sort it out, only telephone number is for the call centre in mumbai, (i appreciate they have a job to do)who dont listen and amazingly tried to offer me a further contract! Eventually got it sorted after 5 phonecalls,(one lasting 45 mins) but probable paid that much in the 5 phonecalls.

this is very dependant on where you are and what sort of reception is available in your area. I've had 2 or 3 contracts on the go with 3 for the last 4-5 yrs, and in cambridgeshire and north wales (not the remote bit) I've not had any problems. Except where I work now in the building, but no network works properly in our building. Overall I've had a decent service and it's saved me a packet over the other networks. CS can be poor, admittedly, but show me any company (not just mobiles) with an overseas CS that are any good :(

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Getting a bit technical here, but bear with me

3 now piggback on Orange (who also pair up with Vodafone in remote areas)

If you have a 3 brand mobile (I am using a N95 as an example) then you can't change your network setting from UTMS to GSM
    (Settings>Phone>Network>Network Mode>GSM) on N series Nokia

If you have a phone from another network and it is unlocked then you can put a 3 SIM in it and change the network to GSM
This will force the phone on to the older orange network (at 3's expense).

All recent 3 branded phones have this menu removed (as it costs them money), so it appears to only work with older 3 handsets and unlokced phones from other networks.
    baldly going on...

You could install the generic Nokia firmware on your n95 which will enable the option as well as installing the latest software for the phone and removing all the 3 branding.
