I've just had a quote for 4 men to move 3 bed detached 40 miles up the road - £977. Have another quote due in and one more man coming tomorrow. Thanks for the tips on checking all the cupboards!

Access issues can really screw quote up as well. My removal quote was £980 to move from a 2-bed to a 4-bed approx 300 miles away, however as the 2-bed is in a tiny lane they'd having to use a small van to transfer furniture to the lorry.

That was a staight removal service with me doing the packing.

Don't pay that. Try "man in van" companies. You will be amazed how cheap some will do it for as they usually have no overheads. Normally no insurance cover but you have to weigh up the risk.

Moving from 4 bed detached, 3 men took 3 or 4 hours and charged me £220. They got a hefty tip cos they were brilliant.
