I am pretty sure it doesnt update the running balance (or any other balance) until the next day.
You are right in saying that it exists in the 'activity summary' (for todays activities), but clearly that wasn't good enough for the person who started this forum post and i'll bet countless others come across the same problem. I know that when I first experienced it all (after being used to barclays immediate statement updates), it wasn't good enough for me either.
I only mentioned the 'activity summary' as a tip to anyone else who is gets confused over this issue - I don't think it is sufficient for A&L to expect people to use this a sole means to track their transfer requests (by the way, an activity summary going back several months can be viewed in the 'Other services' section of online banking if you weren't already aware). I'm sure you appreciate that transfers into an account by direct debit (which were the cause of the original poster's problems) could not be updated in the account statement immediately as they are processed by the bank holding your linked account and might be refused by them. However, they should stay pending until either received or refused.
If someone got a key logger on either of my pcs, it wouldn't stop them stealing my money.
In fact, it would help them, because seeing a personalised pic will help them be certain they are stealing my money from the official A&L site, rather than getting conned by a like-minded fisher.
Two points here: (1) If a key logger were sophisticated enough to read the contents of the screen, the only security measure that would be even partially useful would be for only randomly selected digits/letters of a password to be requested (and A&L already do this to validate transfers etc). Even then, repeated use of the computer would allow someone to piece together your password. (2) I still think the personalised picture is a good move as a lot of people still seem to be caught out by phishing scams and whilst you and I are probably too savvy to be caught out by these, other people will surely gain some peace of mind from knowing that the site they are logging into is genuine.

Apologies to the OP for leading this thread off-topic. :)
