Further to a rather odd phone call from Yorkshire Water last week when they informed me, rather patronisingly, that I'd been reading the meter wrongly for two and a half years (on their instructions) and they had 'accidentally' taken £480 out of my bank account ...

Today I receive the promised letter of explanation. Apparently the reading "looks to be extremely high" and they will be debiting £19,518.33  on the 28 September 2008 (sic). They further inform me that they are "unable to cancel this transaction in time" and suggest I stop the payment with my bank.

:rotfl: I don't think it's me who has been reading the meter incorrectly ....

I'd love to write a really sarcastic letter in response, but I don't yet have written confirmation that they are writing off the £480 debited last week. I did ring and tell the same woman I would not be cancelling the payment, they have ballsed it up twice and have two months to rectify the situation. Yes, I took note of her full name ... ;)

    Maybe I will write
    "Dear Ms. Customer Relationship Manager

    No, you sort it.

    Yours sincerely
    Fire Fox"

Received another letter this morning: YW have apologised for the last letter, confirmed in writing that they have re-credited my account with £460. They go on to say that they are crediting a further £40 for any inconvenience and bank charges, leaving us £20 up! :j No explanation of the £19K bill, so I suppose we shall find out in September ...
