One thing to consider is the hills!! I can't remember the name of the road, but there is a street near the top end of Ecclesall Road which is practically vertical...

Sheffield is a brilliant city - you're going to love it!

    Hia charmless,

I too work on Eccy road, it's probably the best place to work in and around sheffield - everything you need is here :D

Myself and a mate have been renting a 2 bed apartment in the city centre for the last 5 years. We pay ~625 a month for a spacious 2 bed overlooking a river. It's just on the other side of the city to Eccy, so has on-site secure parking (most of the developments inside the city centre do not have parking, hence they apprear cheaper)

Eccy road is easily commutable from most parts of the city. But it terms of living locations, I'd stay to the north of eccy road. The Crookes\Fulwood\Broomhill area's. Also the South towards the bottom (away from city) of Eccy road is okay, Sharrow and Psalter areas. Stay away from the City road area, around Norfolk park and above. Also to the East of the city, around Pitsmoor etc...

Housing then - I'd recommend sharing a professional house tbh. You'll save a fortune in rent and bills, plus you'll meet new ppl.

If you do opt for a studio\1 bed, be prepared to be paying close to the price of a 2 bed. Prices have come down, but not too long ago myself and an Ex spent months looking at flats for her. In the end she got a pad in the West one complex. Very nice, but also very expensive! The flat's we viewed were either old and scruffy or close to the price of a west one pad.

Gumtree would be a good place to find shared accomodation, as mchale suggested.

Parking wise, the mile or so around Eccy road turned to permits about a year ago. This makes parking a bit of a nightmare if you decide to drive to work. The roads to the north of the city, coming off Eccy road have free parking for 4 hours. Then you have to move. To the south of Eccy, it's mostly permits or 80p for 4 hours (then you can top up you ticket) I'd walk if you can, as I try to do ;)

Lunchtime - there are a few sandwich bars opposite champs bar that are good value. There's also a subway and KFC close. Plenty of pubs and coffe shops around too.

That's about all I can think of atm.

Feel free to ask if you need anymore info :p
