I actually think it will be OK. I'm drivign up to the Midlands tomorrow. Consider the M6 Toll to avoid Midlands traffic. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

If the sun shines on Good Friday expect the M61 to M55 section of the M6 to be heavy as cars head for Blackpool.0

probably a good bet or you'll end up in Oxfordshire, maybe use the AA/RAC online routeplanners and have a backup route created without using motorways, if it gets bad you can dive of a junction and find the way along the route you've planned from the net0 -
actually being more helpful though it's a bit of a different route, we do Lancs/Cheshire to Dorset about 9 or 10 times a year, we've now got about 4 main routes we can take depending on what the traffic or roadworks looks like, but in your case as Devon is that much further west the M6/M5 is strictly the quickest on paper(we can split left or right on M6/M42 or M5 to get down to the M4 then back into Dorset). There is also the A49 through Wales that avoids the motorways but as Dual carriageway at best, if it's busy you are still stuck on it. Hopefully M6 will be busier going northt o Lakes/Blackpool but M5 might be quiet for a bit till you get towards Devon0

You can never tell with the M6. If you'd gone today, you'd have been treated to a 20-odd mile tailback (north of Preston through to Wigan) because a lorry crash melted the carriageway.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

Oh the joys of the M6, I spend far too much time on there, I am lucky enough to have Smartnav which diverts you around problems. I am staying home this weekend so don't blame me for any traffic jams. take care if you are driving and watch out for the people who only use motorways once or twice a year and caravanners!0

I've got several peverse strategies on this. I like to travel late at night or early in morning (5.30am on summer mornings is awesome when the sun comes up, steam rising off the ground and no trafffic). I also like obscure cross country B roads, which oddly don't seem to take proportionally longer than the motorway.
All because I hate congested mways.Happy chappy0 -
Whereever possible, there is a traffic management embargo for all roadworks during the Easter weekend from 12pm Thursday tilll 12pm Tuesday.
In simple talk, all cones where they can safely should be chucked off the carriageway to help the motorists on there journeys over the Easter period.
Further information on roadworks can be found at https://www.highways.gov.uk. You can also find out current traffic information from the site, including what the overhead motorway signs are currently saying so its worth a look before you set off!0
