Emirates Skyward Miles

I have about 25,000 Emirates Skyward miles and am thinking about buying some more to get a flight. Has anyone ever bought any Skyward miles from Emirates? Is it worth it or is it better value just to book a flight in the normal way and use my miles for other gifts/rewards.
Any advice welcomed.

I have bought some in the past when I was just a few hundred short of the amount required for a Reward flight and there was a "special offer" on the flight at the time.
For the amount you would need to buy I don't think it would be worth it. An additional 20,000 miles would be enought to get you to Dubai from the UK (return) and would cost about 300 quid. You would still have to pay the tax on the flight making it about the same as just buying it outright.
If your miles are about to run out and you're planning to travel anyway then a one way upgrade is one good use for them. I've never spent them on gifts etc so can't really comment.0 -

Quite! Miles ain't what they used to be! I believe it's possible to convert miles into hotel points, 25,000 might be enough for a free night or two somewhere.:cool:0 -

I actually think the Emirates scheme is one of the better ones. All fares seem to earn miles (all the ones I've booked anyway) and the "taxes and charges" portion is small compared to many others. Miles required for trips seems comparable with most.0 -
You could keep an eye on the Skywards website - they sometimes have cash + miles offers. I don't know how those deals compare with just buying extra miles though.
If/when the exchange rate improves I think I'm going to use 20,000 of my miles to fly to Japan...
...from Korea!0 -

Cash plus miles offers are for residents of the UAE only.
Korea to Japan would require 95,000 Skywards miles - would be going via Dubai so not much chance of anyone taking that route.0 -

Flying with Emirates yes. I was thinking more of going with JAL for 20,000 miles by a rather more direct route.0
