Quite agree, checking your brother's eBay account would be the last thing you would do.

I would imagine this buyer is congratulating himself on such a "clever" excuse to get out of paying.

Report them. Like everyone says you wouldn't be checking their Ebay account while they are dying in hosptial. Also if it is true then they will have better things to worry about that getting an unpaid strike.
Usually people bid on a number of similar items and then just pay for the cheapest they win. Also if you ask them to mutally cancel the transaction and they refuse they can give you negative feedback and you lose out on fees being refunded. But if you report it as unpaid you get your fees refunded no matter what.

Surely not another case of injury or illness related non payment excuses?

Somebody should sue ebay for the amount of bad luck they cause.

To be honest though, I'd issue a strike simply for the way they have massacred the English language in that response.

Check the local online paper - a car crash that serious would have been a headline in most areas!

Besides, if he's that ill in hospital, I'm sure an ebay strike will be the last of his worries!! Just go through the NPB dispute, issue the strike, and get your fee money back.

Accidents happen and life goes on.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
