Should i beleive this stort from non paying buyer please?

I sold an item on the 5th July and staright away I received a message from the buyer asking for my address to send cheque to. I was a little annoyed as my listing stated Paypla only. Anyway I sent him my postal address and awaited the cheque. After ten days I still had no payment and after no response to my messages opened a non payment dispute.

We are now 5 days into the dispute and today I recived the following message:

" this is my brothers ebay account but hecan not respond to this his self ashehis seriously ill in hostpital as a result off a car accident so i would surgest the seller puts the item up fpr resale sorry for ant inconvienence to anyone but at the moment i am unaware of the outcome of his chnces of cuming out of hospital"

Now if this is true my heart goes out to the family but my head is saying this is just an excuse not to complete the transaction. Im tempted to offer a mutual withdrawal from contract but dont really trust the buyer/brother to complete his side. Therefore Im tempted to close dispute after three more days to get fees back although this would mean a strike.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

If my brother was in hospital in a life and death situation, the last thing I'd be checking is his ebay or email account !!!!!

Yep, definitely sounds like a made up story..Relist and strike the bidder who has changed his mind.

Open an nPB and once that is completed relist.

Ebay is the unluckiest place in the world if we believed every story about sickness, accidents etc that we are told. If this buyer is genuine then I can't see an NPB strike bothering him over much anyway.

True or not, there's no reason to drop the NPB dispute.

No reason you should be out of pocket - proceed with the dispute, issue a strike and get your fees back. Can then be re-listed.
  • Ah, the curse of ebay.

    I'd open a dispute.

If this person really is in hospital Im sure they have more important things to worry about then ebay. Maybe once they are back on their feet they will be able to go through their ebay account & get the strikes removed!

Im so fed up with this type of excuse. I had sympathy for the first person that used it, now Im just heartless!
