One other thing I've done recently is to join the virtual sealed pot challenge. This is where you check your bank balance weekly and
a) if you are in credit
b) if doing so won't take you overdrawn
you transfer any "odd" amounts less than £10 to a savings account.
If your finances allow, you might decide that you would transfer anything less than £20 (or £50 or whatever). It just gets you into the habit of saving regularly and it soon mounts up.
Also, I read a book some years ago by some financial guru which says you should save first and then spend what's left. So, if you're trying to save £400 per month then it might help to put that by FIRST and then live on what's left. If you haven't got enough, then that'll help you decide what would be a realistic figure or whether you are able to make further cuts. HTH.0 -
Cloth nappies and cloth wipes are also a good bet for little ones! The nappies can be bought on ebay or somewhere fairly cheap because loads of people buy them then decide thay can't be bothered using them! Wipes can be cheap flannels or towels cut up!Make £5 a day challenge - April

I'm sorry if this has already been done, if it has please feel free to direct me to a similar thread and delete this one
Through unforeseen circumstances I will be leaving my job in the next few weeks, I have no other job to go to so will be at home. I'm a lone parent with 2 kiddies and I get no help or financial support from their dad, I have seen an advisor and pretty much know how much I will have to live off.
What I'm asking is for any tips and advice on how to make the most of my money and the time I will have available until I can find work again?
Thank you very much in advance:j Here's to 2013, may it bring Happiness to all :j0 -
I'll add this to the exisitng thread which will give you lots of ideas. Hope you find work soon :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

as the title says i cant stop spending money every toher day its been £20 here or £30 there on crap, ive contiplated on asking my partner to take my bank cards off me lol.
when out shopping i could easily spend £60+ a week on shopping and half of it we dont need and ends up in the bin just for me and my partner and 4 year old boy.
im starting to consider doing my shopping online so i cant over spend? or buying in bulk my household items from JTF like bog roll and washing up liquid etc.

Hi
I seriously recommend a visit to the DFW forum for a full cash overhaul, but folk here are great on menu planning and saving pennies. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
There are lo0ts of things you can do, meal planning, only take £50 a week out of the cash machine then put youor card somewhere safe and leave it there.
The biggest thing is you have to have some self control and it's very hard with all the stuff on display in the shops.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
