3 contract cancelled, sim card in other phone for numbers
Options
I currently have a contract with 3 which was due to be completed in October, however due to the area I live in not being covered currently by 3 network, (masts are being improved) they have allowed me to cease my contract early without any penalties. However, I need to wait 3 weeks for them to unlock my phone to use another providers sim card. I am moving to Tesco. (Wish I had read about the free facility on these forums before paying £15 to 3). I have a PAK code and this is due to be actioned on Wednesday this week when I transfer to Tesco.
What I would like to know is, why I cannot use my current 3 sim card in an old unlocked phone in order to make sure that I have my contacts on my old phone (Nokia 6230i)until I get the Nokia 6500 slide unlocked. I have used the 6230i whilst abroad with both Portuguese and Greek sim cards without any problems, so I know it is unlocked.
Has anybody any ideas. Any help will be much appreciated.

3 don't allow none 3g handsets to use their network. I know that covers the 6230, but I'm not sure about the 6500?
Even if the phone can't use the network you can still but the sim in it and transfer your info, that shouldn't be a problem. . .0 -

Hi Lymmbo, can you tell me how you found out about these network improvements not being completed? I'm pig sick of 3's non-existent coverage (been with them since early April) and would like to know more about it.
