You could always try driving within the legal limit i guess , that might give you that added protection ;)

Spot on ! I am amazed at the number of people who have honked their horn at me when I have been doing 30 in a 30 mile zone !

Thanks. Have found the pocketGPSsite and it looks a lot more up to date than TomTom's own offering. And pretty much the same price.

...So, as the OP states, TOM TOM is a bit carp..

Actually, the SatNav bit is pretty good. It is just their safety camera database which is carp. The PocketGPS database mentioned by savemoney is a third party database (not from TomTom) and looks a lot better.

Funnily enough, I do try but, sometimes it isn't obvious what the speed limit is and driving at the same speed as the other traffic isn't always accurate.

Although safety cameras are usually easy to spot, they rarely have the current speed limit shown on or near them. The satnav feature is useful because not only does it warn you that there is a safety camera ahead (so watch out for the motorist in front suddenly slamming his brakes on), but also tells you the current speed limit.
  • So if you fancy accurate and up to date safety camera data, don't go to TomTom.

And if you do not want points on your licence, less of the lead foot! (30 years driving, no points) Pipe and Smoke
