TomTom Satnav - Safety camera service not up to date

Bought a new TomTom satnav which also had safety cameras installed. However, the satnav kept warning of safety cameras which I knew were no longer there (they had been for long term road works).

TomTom on their website advertise that for 19.95 a year, you can have a weekly update with accurate and up to date safety camera data. I guessed that the unit I had contained old data so bought the TomTom safety camera service. Download the latest update and set off.

To my surprise, the latest update still had the safety cameras for the long gone road works (over 6 months out of date). I queried this with TomTom support who said they couldn't guarantee the accuracy or validity of any of the safety camera data and had no way of knowing if the information was accurate or up to date.

So if you fancy accurate and up to date safety camera data, don't go to TomTom.

many of the cameras are in the wrong places on mine, i think they can be edited by users though but who has the time to do that...

for one i think it would be illegal for the driver to be ammending tomtom data whilst driving as they are not concentrating on the road, and when ive used the tomtom as a passenger its just a pain to edit anything...

And it still had out of date information. So, as the OP states, TOM TOM is a bit carp..

You can qualify ofr free updates if you spot a camera not on the database (at pocketgpsworld).

Thats the problem, people only report cameras which aren't in the database. Not too many people care if one is not present when the chime rings out so they are not reported and consequently remain on the database.

Better to sound out when there is no camera, than NOT chime when there is one.

Camera database should be seen as an extra though, not the reason to grumble about the whole unit (or it's support). If it were roads missing, I can see the issue.

I did that yesterday (well almost:A) had my cruise control set to 77 on the A96. Whilst I overtook several cars a punter in a hired white van caught up and started tailgating me. As soon as I could I returned to inside lane, he overtook and promptly braked for a camera. Then foot to the floor again. I am ashamed to admit I was very pleased when I saw white van man at the side of the road being "interviewed" by the police.

I hope white van man who was driving North past Lawrencekirk yesterday @ circa 22.00 reads this post :rotfl:

IMHO anyone who cannot see a fixed speed camera box should not be driving. !!!!!!, they are painted red and yellow and there are white lines on the road are you blind?

There is a failsafe, free, easy to use, infallible, guaranteed camera safety avoidance device fitted into EVERY car.

It consists of a brake pedal, a speedometer and a (hopefully) sentient human being who understands the causal relationship between those two bits of kit.

My Tom Tom still has the speed cameras from most of the M20 roadworks for the last 2 or 3 years. You can individually delete them, but everytime you update the b&ggers get reloaded.
