Escaping Mobile contract - I've done it twice!

I have just read the article entitled "Can't escape your mobile phone contract".

I have actually done this twice.

the first time we found a good deal with 3 and I was with T mobile. They sent us a letter saying that they were now charging an extra £1 per month for itemised billing, and this was a contractural change.

Hence I exercised my rights under contract law and hilighted that they could NOT impose a change in the Ts and Cs and hence they were obliged to release me fromthe contract should I wish.

They agreed.

The second time we were with Orange, and the local transceiver developed a fault, that Orange didn't know about until I told them!

As a result the area I live in was without reception for 2 weeks. As I use my mobile for business this was unacceptable. I received a £20 credit on my bill for each contract that was affected.

Even after the reception was fully restored, I was affected by bad reception in my area. Orange admitted this was a problem and couldn't do anyting about it. I eventually spoke to their executive department who agreed to release me from both contract, once I was connected to another network. all I had to do was return the phones at their expense.

I have to say I would definitely consider Orange again should they sort out their network problems.
