Currys - appalling service

Wrong, i know you believe your right though, i urge you to write or Email LG head office and ask them what companies are contracted to them for their products.
Straight away i have third party USB stick in my hand made for Samsung, eMax USB on eBay sell these, i can prove you wrong in minutes, see this is why i will never go to Currys again, they do not know what they are on about trying to convince people of things they know nothing of.
I don't work for currys...Also before i go, check out THE GADGET SHOW archives of the interview with LG head office, Dom asks him who LG makes products for and .... well, they make for near enough everyone, including Sony and Samsung. I believe Dom over Currys staff TBH.
I can't find that interview, but if you can find a link i'd be interested to watch it.
However, the only mistakes I may have made are whether samsung actually physically manufactures their solid state memory.
I've seen photos of their panel processing plant and the areas marked as "brand S" for the singly layer of sony panels.
As I said, LG and Philips had a partnership where they made lots of panels, but philips pulled out. I never said LG don't make anybody's panels.
The point I was disputing was that you get the same product when you buy LG as you do when you buy a more expensive brand. That is completely incorrect. Regardless of whether they make the screens or not, or whether they're supplying other components, the main point is that the algorithms that the TVs use, i.e. the Bravia, Viera or whaterver other engines, are the most important part of the tv. Just because the plastic square on the front of the TVs may have come from the same manufacturer, it doesn't mean the picture quality is the same. Line up an LG, Sony, Panasonic and Sharp set. You'll see different picture quality, different motion, different colours. You have your proof, i urge you to stop dashing about the shop floor lol :rotfl:
If you're ever in the shop where I work and you have something that urgently needs sorting out, I'll be sure to move as slowly as possible and stop for as many people as I can, so you have to wait.0 -
I counted about ten staff and there were only two customers in the store! - and anyway, whats wrong with pausing to ask a customer what they want, then saying, thank you, I'll be with you in a moment?
There's nothing wrong them stopping to see if you need service. They should have done, in fact. Where I work, we have to acknowledge customers within 2 mins of them stepping through the door.
I just get a bit defensive when i hear people say the staff were just "gossiping" though, because, like I said, I've been accused of it by customers when I've been discussing an important issue with a colleague on behalf of another customer.I got the KDL32V5500
Not bad.
Staff stated they only made 5 % on TV's - well you can buy them online for 15% cheaper than currys price, and that company are still making a profit! Anyway, I was buying two other items, he could have given me the discount on those he had a better profit margin on! Also, of course I would want to haggle spending £1000 - This is something advocated over and over on this site right from the top! If you think that is wrong, then I think you are on the wrong site!
While I'm not a fan of currys' prices, profit margins on all electricals are bad. That's why, where I work, I only get 12% discount on electrical items.
Online outfits have far less overheads. Consider that they don't need to pay their staff as much, because the staff don't need any specialist knowledge. They don't have to have all of the TVs on, or on display, write off display stock, pay as much for the site, have as much security, as much theft, all of the other fees that a shop has to pay out before they even get going. An online shop is just an office with a warehouse.
This site is about finding the best deals, yes, but not about getting angry because a shop won't let you talk them down. There is a difference between finding a deal and expecting a discount as your god given right.0 -
You are right, a discount is not a right, however as you have stated, this site, directly from Martin himself, actively encourages haggling.
What annoyed me was that both the member of staff I spoke to, and then the manager himself, catagorically stated that they had no discretion to offer discounts whatsoever and that it was out of their hands and was as a result of orders from 'head office'. Even when I said to the manager that surely he has some discretion, he denied this. It was only when I persisted that I secured a discount of about £50 in total on my spend, and when I looked at the receipt, it stated, 'Discount - Manager offer - Manager discretion'.
If I had took him at his word and not persisted, I would have been £50 worse off!

regarding the claim of not having any discretion to give discounts, it does suck that they lied about it. At work I don't have the discretion to, and I never do. However, it's not always a good idea to take what the receipt says regarding that sort of thing at face value. For instance, up until very recently, if I were to sell a display item, the only till option for the reduction was Damaged Stock. And on the receipt it said "stock number - Damaged". The amount of people who then kicked up a fuss because they thought that the item was actually damaged was immense. sometimes the tills just haven't been updated so print off an old name for a new practice, if that makes any sense.0

Seriously, try emailing the gadget show if you are truly interested, i didn't say LG were as good as what they make for Sony i said near enough as it is the same technology.
As for your arguments - hey, i am not here to argue.
Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Using Managers Discretion on the POS system lets you reduce the price to £0.01 if you want to. Does that mean they are allowed to? No..and when I looked at the receipt, it stated, 'Discount - Manager offer - Manager discretion'.
Managers Discretion is the usual reason used for discounting on the receipt...
The other options are for thing such as incorrect price tickets, price promises, head office promotions etc.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Have you seen the Currys sales asbestos? Have a look at this which demonstrates how skint they are http://www.bitterwallet.com/tag/!!!!-up

Well maybe if the customers didnt feel so ripped off when they enter the store then more would return.
We travel to Farnworth for our TVs used to be local to us, no longer is but they seem to have plenty of show models, the staff are completly clued up on TVs and associated equipment. They even delivered a TV to us that we ordered on Xmas eve, they day after boxing day!
I went to currys for a price match deal on a camcorder.
They price matched it no complaints there, but what they failed to spot was the prices i had given them didnt include VAT. It was there quite cleal in black and white, the SA even took all the quotes to his manager who authorised the transaction. Maybe a bit of training ther would have saved them a few pounds!!
My husband was a retail manager many years ago, his store didnt have any complaints in regards to customer service, and he is the same regarding CS now. You dont appear to give him any good service you wont see him again. There is something lacking in this country regarding customer service, not just currys, we go to the states alot and we have alot to learn from them!BR date 18/11/090 -

Why not make sure all your purchases are with the store manager, then watch them cringe when you refuse all their bolt ons?
