    Incorrect.

Samsung makes their own electronics, including SD cards, TV panels and the rest. Samsung also make a layer of sony's panels, but only ONE layer.

LG and Philips did have a partnership where they made panels, but don't forget that even if they make somebody else's panel, they don't make the processing engine, which is the most important part.

There's also the sound to consider. Sony's TVs have brilliant sound. LG's often don't.

The processing engine is by far the most important part, though. That's what defines the colours and motion flow of the TV. It's like giving identical pieces of paper to an artist and a 5 year old. It's the same paper, but the artist will give a far superior picture.

Wrong, i know you believe your right though, i urge you to write or Email LG head office and ask them what companies are contracted to them for their products.

Straight away i have third party USB stick in my hand made for Samsung, eMax USB on eBay sell these, i can prove you wrong in minutes, see this is why i will never go to Currys again, they do not know what they are on about trying to convince people of things they know nothing of.

Also before i go, check out THE GADGET SHOW archives of the interview with LG head office, Dom asks him who LG makes products for and .... well, they make for near enough everyone, including Sony and Samsung. I believe Dom over Currys staff TBH.

You have your proof, i urge you to stop dashing about the shop floor lol :rotfl:
    Owed out = lots.

Did you know that Currys head office advised their store managers to "Engage all customers" in a memo a few months ago. This sounds great news but the reason that H.O gave that all customers should be engaged is "to reduce theft".

Perhaps people were getting so fed up with waiting they thought sod this I'm going to do a runner with it....

Hmm I think if I was the Manager of that store in this current econmic climate i would be doing everything possible to secure the deal even if it meant discounting or throwing in some freebies, better to do this than the sale walking out the door and after the appalling service the op received im surprised they didnt!!! Myself I would be straight onto head office, i take no prisoners these days, had too much crap that i paid for with appalling service and never ever complained and never got anywhere!;)
So your saying because your feeling poor, the manager should give away stock so he makes an overall loss?

Would the manager rather have a profit of £5 or nothing? If the give away a free scart lead for example, it would not mean a loss for the manager.
If they make so little how come they manage to reduce the same TV few months later in the sale??

Nice clip, but no idea what that has to do with Currys - appaling service? Maybe the old man bears a passing resemblance to the "assistant" in your local store?

Arrrgh this sort of attitude annoys me quite a lot. At work, I often deal with a lot of the backroom stuff, such as sorting out paperwork on returns, putting items on display/writing off wastage etc, or looking for stock for customers.

Yet customers usually assume I'm just running around doing nothing if I don't have anything in my hands while going from A to B on the shop floor. Perhaps the staff really were busy?

I counted about ten staff and there were only two customers in the store! - and anyway, whats wrong with pausing to ask a customer what they want, then saying, thank you, I'll be with you in a moment?

Were they really gossiping? Sometimes staff members need to discuss something about the stock/work. I'm not saying they shouldn't serve you, but customers seem to always assume it's 'just gossiping.' If you were discussing something important and work related with your manager, I bet you wouldn't be too pleased if people berated you for gossiping.

Yes, they were gossiping, laughing and joking (sounded like they were talking about what they did last night. And again, If I were a manager (or member of staff), I would break off from what I was doing/talking about, to deal with a customer

Well that is balls lol. Apart from LG being rubbish. They are. Which model TV did you get? Every sony TV is a Bravia and there are LOADS of models.

    I got the KDL32V5500

The profit margins on TVs are terrible, especially with the weak pound. Just because you're buying something that costs a lot doesn't mean that's all profit. It's like sony and microsoft, they initially lost money on every PS3 and Xbox 360, because they cost so much to manufacture. They were only willing to absorb the loss because they made money on software.

TVs don't have those extras, so there's no point selling them at a loss. I don't understand the attitude that people have where they assume the prices are a rough guide and they're entitled to at least 10% off for turning up. Do you haggle at the petrol pump?

Staff stated they only made 5 % on TV's - well you can buy them online for 15% cheaper than currys price, and that company are still making a profit! Anyway, I was buying two other items, he could have given me the discount on those he had a better profit margin on! Also, of course I would want to haggle spending £1000 - This is something advocated over and over on this site right from the top! If you think that is wrong, then I think you are on the wrong site!

Hmm they should have checked availability before selling it, really.

Real store + staff + advertising has more overheads than an internet store.

Why does the fact your spending £1000 mean you can haggle? There are some items you can buy that sell for £5 that can be bought for £0.50, and there are some £1000 items that even at cost are £950... Theres nothing wrong with trying to haggle, but you can't get annoyed because you have to spend full price.

You probably spend more than £1,000 in Tesco's per yer - does that mean you'd try to haggle some bread down at the counter? No.

Similarly - even if they were making 500% profit, they are targeted at 1.5% discount, and they are encouraged not to discount anywhere near as much on insurance replacement vouchers because they are sold at sub-face-value to insurance companies...
