My 6 yr old sounds v similar - wearing size 6-7 tops easily but age 5 jeans fit length wise but are still too big in waist. I try and buy most of his trousers at H&M in the sales. All of his jeans from there have adjustable waists with the hidden buttons inside the waistband, plenty of scope for growth. I have bought his school trousers from Asda Walmart and they have the same adjustable waist.

I actually managed to find a belt in H&M that he could manage himself, that has been handy for the few pairs of trousers he has without the buttons.

We used to have a Pumkin Patch shop which had some great kids stuff but the chain closed - there might be some of their stuff on EBay. It was very good quality and lasted ages.

i buy from asda for my son, but jeans etc. are far too big around the waist, they tend to be made for chunkier children. he wears the elasticated casual type trousers instead - they look a bit like the nike trousers the chav kids wear, but they only cost a fiver from asda, tesco never seem to have anything in his size but i think they sell the same kind of things.

asds pyjamas on come in 7-8 or 9-10 though, no middle sizes and it's a big size jump. the 9-10 shorties fit okay around the waist though.

roll on summer - it's much easier to dress kids of all waist sizes when you don't have to take arm or leg length into account.

adams, gap and next will probably fit your son best, might be worth having a look on ebay - i buy second hand next stuff all the time and it keeps the shape and size well.

jelly head try the ones with elastic adjusters inside the waist

my son is quite long legged but has a skinny waist so these are ideal :)

next and gap deffo do them ,and im sure many other places too
worth paying a bit more for a comfy / correct fit IMO :)

Just be aware that if you buy jog bottoms from Primark, Asda or Tesco and put them in the tumble drier THEY WILL SHRINK!

That may or may not help ...

hi, spud's had jeans with adjusting elastic, he doesn't like them. he's fussy, says jeans are heavy and they don't feel right, make his knees feel squashed ?! the nike-type trousers are his own choice, although he's 9 now and would probably like them to actually be nike rather than asda :rotfl: i got the adjusting jeans from the empire catalogue, in the sale but i don't know if they sell them every season. i found these http://www1.empirestores.co.uk/cgi-bin/Empireshopping.storefront/4440c42100120e5e278e0a0b003805aa/Product/View/KH1504?type=G
    but they're £12.99

My older two don't wear jeans either, and actually I agree with them: they are often far thicker and less flexible than any other trousers they wear, and if they're a tight fitting leg they would constrict your knees, wouldn't they?

spud likes tracksuit type trousers but they're kind of silky, if that makes sense? in black or navy, the asda ones have a little skateboarder logo on, sometimes a tiny stripe down the leg but plain navy ones don't look too bad, they're as comfortable as joggers but he's worn them to weddings etc. with a shirt without anyone thinking he looked scruffy (new ones of course, without grazed knees!).

i think asda and tesco both sell them in each size, so you can get 5-6, 6-7, 7-8 etc. and they're not too big around the waist, spud is very skinny but they don't fall off, unlike everything else from asda, made for children with a chunkier build.
