We had a digital switchover event yesterday where some major Freeview channels on my Humax Freeview box disappeared. On retuning, it was not as good as before, failing to update the EPG as fast as it used to. Solution was, delete all the channels above 800 as they are duplicates. Seems back to normal now.

This Humax 9200 box used to have an incurable locking up issue that Humax did (finally) fix for once & all with an over-the-air update.

    Hi guys n gals

I am now on my 3rd sky+ box in under 6 months so all is not rosy in Mr Murdochs little world. Oh and every time that I have had a replacement box all my recordings were lost as they were on the old box and there is no way (that i know of) of transferring recordings from one box to the other.

Looks like Humax Sat boxes freeze up just like my Humax Freeview PVR does. So what is reliable in this world? Pay a subscription to Murdoch for Sky+ ?
I have Sky Freesat with an ancient Panasonic box going on for 9 years old. It's not exactly the prettiest thing but never had a problem. :T
  • I have the hummy freesat and it constantly freezes on the channel guide requiring reboot. Happens to lots of owners with no help from coming from Humax to sort it out. latest software installed but no improvement. keep well clear of this model.

A well known problem, instead use the schedule button and then press the red button. It's a small problem compared to what the box is capable of.

I had had my humax box since it came out with no problems whatsoever. I wish they would do a wireless version mind, seems out of date to run a cable to back of the router for iplayer etc

Just use a pair of Homeplugs if your router is not adjacent to the Hummy.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

In spite of this being an old thread, we are also still experiencing freezing problems with the Humax Foxsat.

The common denominator seems to be selecting BBC HD on the programme guide or channel select. This doesn't happen EVERY time you do this, but it has happened enough times to confirm there is a connection of some kind. Everything locks up and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reboot (switch off and back on via the power switch on the back).

The Humax is connected to the TV via a HDMI lead (properly fitted) and there are no other in-line receivers or PVRs connected.

As far as I can tell we are on the latest software release, but unfortunately unlike my dear old Topfield you can't interface to the Humax via a PC so you can only get updates over the satellite.

If Topfield made satellite receivers I'd have one tomorrow. I find the Humax counter-intuitive and confusing to use and I don't like the way it prevents you from organising or moving your recordings by not having a PC port or software to enable you to do so. The user manual was written by and for chimpanzees, I think, and was proof-read by moles.

I worked in IT for many years so I'm not a technophobe, but this is one piece of technology I have in my home under sufferance, not by preference.

    .
If it is a foxsat hdr then look here http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1599048-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-4-0-part-2-a.html (the original software is in part-1 which may be pointed at in post 1 , but if not then it is the same address without the -part-2-a.html) . It allows FTP Telnet Filesharing using samba using DLNA using Twonky and others and has a web interface too.
If it is a HDR then perhaps you must have lost the ability to google of course if it is not then I apologise for interfering with your rant.

Edited: If the freezing happens on the guide , and it is a known piece of really annoying load of carp, then use the schedule button and the red coloured button on the remote, that uses the EPG downloaded at 03:00 daily. I guess that the freezing is due to using the EPG in real time , which means using one of the feeds and it depends what that feed is doing...it is probably down to Humaxs' programming, but it could be down to Freesat's EPG too.
